Question:
2 weeks post op and no weight loss

I had lapband surgery 2 weeks ago and am following the post op diet to the "T". Protien, Fluids and weighing/measuring. I have not lost but maybe 2 lbs.?? What am I doing wrong or what can I do to pump it up. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Getting concerned??    — ambergirl (posted on November 12, 2009)

Since there is no fluid in your band, the only restriction around your pouch is from any swelling as a result of the surgery. Some people don't have much swelling, and they are able to eat the same amount as before. Don't get discouraged. As soon as you are properly healed, your surgeon will fill your band for the first time. Some people take one or two fills to really notice a difference in the amount of food they can eat. Every body is different. Remember that this is not a race or a competition. You had the surgery knowing there would be a life long change to your eating habits. You are trying to loose weight and become more healthy. Hopefully many of the health problems you've had, that are related to your weight, will become a thing of the past. The Lap-Band is a tool to help you successfully lose weight and keep it off. You WILL loose weight. The first year will be the easiest one to "stick to" your doctors guidelines. The more you do, the easier it will be to maintain those good habits later. You have so many wonderful moments to look forward to. Congratulations on your surgery. I am 5 years post-op with my Lap-Band. It took me 3 1/2 years to reach my goal weight, but I feel 20 years younger. The best part of the Lap-Band for me is that it is effective in helping me keep the weight off. That has always been the hard part for me in the past. Hang in there.... and by the way, be sure to save at least one pair of your "fat" pants as a reminder of what you've accomplished. Everyone in my WLS support group has taken pictures of ourselves on a regular basis so we can make a small photo album to show people interested in having the surgery. The first year we took pictures weekly or monthly, then about every 2-3 months, and eventually a few times a year. It is amazing how much we all changed for the better. I know you will too. God Bless
