Question:
Is a perm a good idea @ 3 months out..scared of hair loss.
i wanted to go ahead and get long hair cut shorter and get a perm before the hair loss starts.has anyone did this and did it affect anything in anyway.i was thinking of the chemicals. — carolyn1970 (posted on October 29, 2009)

Hi.. I always over do way to many chenicals...but that is me. I use very
good conditioners, shampoos. But , about 6 months after I did lose some
hair. My perm worked great to cover the thin areas and no one but the
people I showed were any the wiser. I'm 15 months out and hair is
great..fuller than ever and have some body & curl I didn't have before.
If you have a regular hair person..ask them. Best of luck..

hi i had a hi-light 3 months out and was fine. i did start loosing hair at
about 5 months out and i am almost 8 months out and am still loosing hair.
luckily my hair was thick to begin with. i am waiting until the hairloss
slows before i color again. if it's gonna fall out it will do it whether
or not you chemically treat your hair.

Hi Carolyn.
I am a cosmetologist and I would like to give you my thoughts on perming
and hair loss.
Most of the perms I do are on ladies (and a few men) with thin hair who
want lift to help hide their scalp. Please be sure you tell your stylist
you want her to roll the rods in a bricklay. Do not allow her to roll it
in a traditional 9-block. A bricklay will minimize the partings that allow
your scalp to show.
