Question:
How would we know if we are stretching out our new pouches (RNY)? I am afraid of this

That is my thought exactly. I am 17 months post RNY and was afraid from day
one about streching out my pouch. I just make sure and don't eat over a
cup of food at a time and I think that works. I have gotten real good at
eye-balling how much food is a cup or less. I have lost 220 pounds so I
think it worked. lol And I am never hungry so that is a good strategy I
think. Good luck and I hope other people can help you out more than I
did..

I think everyone is afraid of this, but asking questions is the right
start. I asked my doc if liquids could stretch the pouch..his answer is
no...they flow right thru...food can, but only if you over eat a lot, if
you get overly full once or twice, it won't, but if you do it every meal or
most meals, you will. I went from being able to eat to eat about 4 small
bites...less than 1 ounce at a meal and my weight loss stalled, My nut said
to eat 2 ounces and i just couldn't do it without feeling the pressure in
the belly. I was in fact stretching it out to allow for 2 ounces. I stayed
eating 2 ounces until I reached the goal the clinic set for me. I now eat 4
ounces 4 times a day with a snack. If you eat small bites, chew well, and
eat 2 ounces or less depending on where you are post surgery, you will be
fine. If you continually eat to feeling full you will stretch it out. If
you have no hunger, (and most people don't for 6 months or so)then eating a
small amount is not hard. Measure out the food and eat only that. It really
is the best thing you can do for yourself. Best of luck and God Bless.

Dear Christine, that's the same question I have. I'm six months and out and
go for my next appt. with surgeon on tuesday. I swear I could eat three
cups of food if I let myself.Don't get full fast anymore, and sometimes feel
hungry alot.I'm scared i did stretch mine out. Gonna talk to doc this week
and hope he has answer. To be sure, I would call your doctor's office and
ask them. Good luck. Sincerely, JoAnn
