It is different for everyone, some people actually have gained weight
(water weight) but everyone is differnet. I actually lost 14 pounds the
first week, but I think it all depends on the individual, I have heard of
people losing more and of people losing less. Don't worry about it, I was
shocked that I had lost that much, now (4 weeks post op)it has tapered off
to about 6 pounds a week...... which is not bad either.

Your weight loss will depend on how much you have to lose to begin with.
Typically, the higher your BMI at surgery, the faster your post-op weight
loss will be. If you have 200 lbs to lose and I have 100 lbs to lose and
we both have the same surgery on the same day, chances are, you will have
lost about twice as much as me at your first appointment. However, by the
time you have lost 1/2 of your weight (you still have 100lbs to lose), your
weight loss will have slowed down to about the same lbs lost per week (on
average) as the person needing to lose 100 lbs at the time of their
surgery. The more you lose, the slower it will come off, in general.

Be prepared to have not lost any weight at all, or to possibly have gained
weight. We get all those liquids via IVs in the hospital, and then too,
our bowels aren't working quite right just yet, and our bodies are still
experiencing the shock of having had a major procedure done. In a week and
a half, I had only lost 4 pounds, and was disappointed to the point of
tears. We are all different, and we will lose differently. On a REALLY
"up note" though, I am now 5 1/2 months out, and the scale this
morning showed that I am down ONE HUNDRED POUNDS!!! 37 more pounds to go
to reach my surgeon's goal, and 57 to reach MY goal! Yippeee!!

When I came home from the hospital after having RNY on 7/7/09 I had
actually gained 24 lbs. By the time I saw the dr. at 2 weeks out I had lost
that 24lbs. plus 10 more. Now at 6 weeks out I have lost 27 lbs. since
coming home and a total of 47 lb. since the 2 week pre liquid diet. Good
luck! Keep me posted!

Everyone is different in the amount of weight they loose. I actually was
full of fluid when I first came home. My feet were very swollen. But by the
time I went back to the doctor I had lost 18 pounds. Dont worry any amount
you loose is great!!! Good Luck,
