Question:
Does anyone else only lose weight once a month
I have been tracking my progress and initially I had lost 17 lbs the first week! That was great but then a stand still for 8 days until right before Aunt flo visited and I dropped another 5 lbs. now Ive been at a stand still for 2.5 weeks and I am only 5 weeks out! I suspect I will lose again next week right before my period. Did anyone else lose like this and make it to goal or been successful? Can all I hope for is a once a month loss of 5 lbs? Im so discouraged - I still have 100 lbs to lose! I need you guys- especially the slow losers to tell me how you lost and reassure me that this will eventually work for me! — cpainter5 (posted on June 24, 2009)

Hi, I am almost 5 years out and that's how it's always been for me. I lose
most of my weight, one week a month. and maybe a pound or two the rest. I
only had 100 pounds to lose and made it to goal within one year. By the end
of 6 or 9 months I lost 80 pounds. You will be fine. Trust me. Just follow
the rules, don't try to starve yourself to make the scale go down faster
and exercise, exercise.

Hi! I am a year out (june19th) and started as a slow loser. First of
all...make sure you aren't dehydrated..I was right from the start.. and it
took 3 long weeks to get re-hydrated. And that was drinking 80+ oz a
day.You won't lose weight if you are de-hydrated. Then there is the are you
eating too much/too little factor. I wasn't eating enough at 3 months
out...and I wasn't losing very fast. Once I increased my meals to 2
ounces, per my dietians orders,.. I started to lose and then it came off
quicker..I ended up at goal weight in about 10 months. Now lets not forget
that we have high's and lows while losing. It takes our bodies time to
catch up to not getting what it used to for nurishment. Make sure you are
getting in your vitamins and protein. Get atleast 60 grams of protein ..if
you can get closer to 80 thats great. It also helps with hair loss. But
don't go overboard...100 grams is unnecessary, for example. Try not to
worry. It will work ...just remember to drink drink drink and get in what
needs to be gotten! lol As a slow loser and someone who got very frustrated
when newbies would come to support group and say they had lost 50 lbs when
i had maybe lost 30, in months...I can tell you it will work. But it isn't
easy, it isn't always fast...and its never as fast as we would like it to
be! Change your ideas on food and really try to eat for fuel, not pleasure.
You will be successful. Go to support group..there will someone there you
can relate to. Its very important to go early on and get info from others
who have gone thru it. Everyone has a different experience. And also, those
who keep it off usually attend a group periodically. I'm not saying
everyone, but there is eveidence that by making oneself accountable to
others, the success rate increases. Anyway..I have gone on long
enough...Best of luck to you! hugs, Kim

I really like the statement "Eat for fuel not for Pleasure." I
think I need to memorize this one.

Yes! It seems as though I have been losing weight ONLY after my period
comes to visit. I love that I lose the weight, but find it odd. I don't
gain any weight, the way I used to with bloating and what-not, before my
periods, but I still lose it? Not sure why, but that is how it works for
me. I don't really lose weight the other three weeks of the month. I
never thought I would say this, but, "THANK GOD FOR MY PERIOD."

I don't have to worry about Aunt Flo visiting, am 56. But I am a slow
loser down 25lbs in 3 months. My Dr. says thats great and loosing slower
is better for the saggy skin problem we will have at the end. I had a
lapband. In group I meet people who are faster and slower at weight loss
than I am. I am just very thankful that after 44 yrs of the scale going up
up up that it is finally going down each month. I still have 87lbs to go,
and each week can increase my exercise little by little. We will make it.
Good luck in your continued journey.
