Question:
Hi I have a question, I am 5 days post op

Hi all, I am on liquids and I am bored and I hate the protein drinks even though I choke them down cause I have too, but i have had jello , popsicles, milke, water, didnt like broth, and that is it basically, I bought some progresso , 98% fat free veggie soup, can I blenderize it and try it? Is it too early only 5 days? Any other ideas? can I try a scrambled egg yet? I am so bored already thanks!    — katipat79 (posted on May 1, 2009)

Sorry, no eggs just yet. Something that tasted wonderful to me was potato soup. Keep in mind that you aren't supposed to consume potatoes very much, at all. Preferably, never after surgery. I don't eat them now, but that did help me get through those first few weeks. Just be sure there are no lumps. I also used the creamy soups....cream of mushroom, and cream of broccoli were so yummy, then. I just felt so much like I needed warm stuff. I got really tired of cold and sweet foods. Hope this helps...

Wow! When I went home 2 days after surgery, they gave me a little sheet that said what I could have. I had 5 choices: one ounce in VOLUME of low-fat-low-carb SMOOTH yogurt, Taco Bell refried beans (which I thinned out with beef broth), fat-free-sugar-free pudding, EggBeaters, or low-fat cottage cheese. I preferred the cottage cheese with a little bit of dry buttermilk ranch dressing mix in it for taste, but I ate the refried beans even though I didn't like them, because it gave me a feeling of being satisfied. Oh, I ate the yogurt and pudding and EggBeaters, and still do (8 weeks out)but whenever I had a question like this, I would call the registered dietician at my surgeon's office. One time I asked her about a really yummy home-made spinach soup with protein powder added (liquified in our VitaMix blender) and she said that as long as it was completely liquified (no lumps or bumps or chunks in it), then it was safe to drink as a protein drink. Don't know if this helps you or not... as for the protein drinks, have you tried putting one of the New Whey bullets into some hot fruity herbal tea? Or have you tried the Lean Dessert protein powders? You mix them up with only 5-6 ounces of water, let them sit for about five minutes and shake them up again, and they taste like velvet, with no protein powder taste. It comes in several flavors, but my favorites are Chocolate Coconut Candy, Fresh Cinnamon Roll, and Banana Nut Bread. You can find them at a Vitamin Shoppe near you, usually, or you can get them online at www.bariatriceating.com.

i used GNC designer whey (chocolate)flavoed protein powder and that taste really good, also carnation sugar free instant breakfast drink is good too, that has 13 gram of protein, yes the creame soups are really good.

I am on my week two (whole liquids). In addition to broths, jello, water, etc., I can now have cream soups, and very very soupy instant potatos, or lf cottage cheese blended to a soup consistancy.

I was on liquids for 3 weeks. I would not do eggs right now. Your pouch is healing and food right now at this stage would be very painful. Just drink, drink, drink. Propel, sugar free kool-aid helped. Just hang in there.

I did tomato soup, yogarts all creamy flavors (no fruit chunks) , maltomeal, broth from chick noodle soup. Those are just a few of my favorites. 5 weeks post band, getting first fill Tuesday. Carolyn James
