Question:
Is 52 pounds in 3 1/2 months considered a slow weight loss?
I lost 10 pounds in Dec. 2008 just before my surgery on Dec. 30th. Since then I've lost another 52. So, in total...since early December I am down 62 pounds. I seem to be losing my perspective on how fast I should be losing. I really figured I'd be losing more. Any advice or words of wisdom? And yes...I have been guilty of weighing nearly every day and it is just plain depressing. :( — PaulaJ (posted on April 20, 2009)

Everybody is different! You will lose as fast as your body wants it to. I
had my lap RNY 1-15-09 and I've lost 62 lbs. We are both on the same track
with weight loss. I actually feel like I have lost a lot compared to
others that I know. In my opinion as long as you are eating what you are
suppose to and exercising than I think you are doing fine. I only have to
exercise 3-5 days a week, but I find that if I exercise everyday I lose
more. Exercise and staying away from the carbs are the keys! You're doing
fine! Keep up the hard work!

Like someone else noted - everyone is different and lose at different
rates. As long as you are losing that is most important. If you compare
yourself to others and you don't feel like you are losing fast enough it
will only get you down. I had that happen a few months post RNY last year
but slowly I followed directions of diet and exercise and have taken off
200.8lbs as of this past Sunday and I am about 14 months post-op. Looks
like you are doing well and as long as you physically feel well just know
that you are heading in the right direction and the finish line will be a
reality in the future! Keep up the good work!!!!

Doesn't the amount you weigh at surgery also factor in to how fast you
lose?

i had RNY on 2/12/09 and i started liquid diet on superbowl sunday and on
the day i went in for surgery i lost a total of 21 lbs on the 10day liquid
diet in total since feb 1st in down 59 lbs. keep up the great work and
only weight yourself once a week i was doing the same thing weighing
everyday and it is discouraging to not see it move and think what did i do

The amount you need to lose alot of times does affect the rate in which you
lose. I started over 400#'s a friend of mine started at 250 and only lost
about 5-7lbs a month after losing 10 pounds the first month. She is 5
years out and lost 120lbs in a little over a year and kept it off and just
recently got married.

I had the rny on jan. 9th i started out weighing 285 I am down 60lbs. The
doctors office told me I was on target some lose faster than other. It
depends on your weight that you start out at. Good luck .
