Question:
Does everybody lose hair or is this different for each individual?

It is different. I never lost any, in fact my hair became thicker and developed curls.

Thanks. That's kind of what I suspected and hoped.

Since they are not exactly sure the exact reason so many lose hair after surgery, they also cannot predict who will or will not lose hair for a short time, but when it happens it's about 3 mos post op for another 3 months total and then it's over! I lost an alarming amount of hair and it grew back luscious and shiny and a much nicer texture as well...So it wasn't a total loss! It all grew back!

When I had my gall bladder out several years ago, I went completely bald on one side! I later read it is a side effect from having major surgery and not evry one has it. I had RNY 5 months ago and haven't lost any hair and have even noticed my finger nails are stronger than ever!

It is different for everyone. I know I am losing my hair really fast. I have started to wear a wig now. I have 2 bald spots, but keep up hope that all will return to normal soon.

i never lost any hair -- open rny 11-22-06 -- never took any gimmicks like biotin -- just my regular vitamns that my surgeon said to take -- keep up with my water and eat my protein -- don't do shakes, just good old food -- good luck to you :) and everyone is different in each and every aspect of WLS and side effects -- try real hard to never compare yourself to anyone else -- we are all individuals :)

I was a bit horrified at the amount of hair I lost at 3 mos. to 8 months post RNY, esp since my hair was thin to start with. Took all my vitamins, ate well -- didn't seem to make a difference. My regrowth started showing at 11 months post + the texture had changed considerably. Now, finally, at 17 months post-op, it's starting to look more normal. However, I believe it will easily be 24-28 months before it looks as good as it can. (Hair cut a couple days ago revealed even more short, new growth). Depends a lot on how short you are willing to cut your hair to even out the lengths.
