Question:
Hormones

How those hormones effect your weight. I say my doc. to day and told him I was very discourage and disappoint that my weight loss is very slow. He did not seen to be to concern and I told him that every I eat my meals I get this burst of heat to my body, I dont think that it is dumping, really, it comes on right when I take that first bite and last maybe 5 minutes or so, then I am fine. Anyway I was thinking that I am going thur the CHANGE(menapause) as some may put it.Do you think that is the problem with me I cant seen to lose any more weight and my doc. dont seen to be to worried as he feels that I am doing just fine just by looking at me. Sure every one says you are losing weight, but I dont see it and the scale dont show it. Just wondering that it could be. Any advise would be appreciate. bypass 9months out Jennie    — zydeko47 (posted on January 23, 2009)

Jennie, First, how old are you? Have you had children or not? Have periods changed or stopped altogether? Some questions to think about. Also how much weight did you start with and plan to lose with your surgery? I'm 54 and 21 years post-op. I've been going thru the change for a while; it usually takes a decade to complete menopause sometimes longer. And even though the hormones play a part it doesn't seem to fit in your case. If I were you, I would get a second opinion and have labs done and ask them to check my thyroid. The thyroid can change many things and all of us react individually to surgery. I hope I have helped. You could be getting a lot of niacin in your food. This can cause flushing which sounds like what you are describing. Does your B12 have niacin added. The flushing is not harmful so the doctor will probably not worry about it. Sometimes the scale does not move but our body is reshaping. If you look and feel great don't worry. Just eat what you should and it will all be fine.

I was going to ask about your thyroid also...Have you had labs done at all...I have a list of labs to ask for on my profile...I get them done at EVERY appointment every 6 months! (It's A LOT OF BLOOD...but worth every drop) If your labs are off that can change how fast or slow you lose or even gain! What do you eat? Do you log your food at all or know how many calories you are eating at all? Do you weigh or measure your food? Do you have any weird symptoms? The flushing feeling I get from hypothyroidism...But I also get flushed and hot like that from eating spicy or hot foods or beverages, alcohol always!...I posted about it a few times because the flushing was really bugging me...and then later found out my thyroid disease which had been quiet for 5 years was suddenly back and low...If my thyroid is even just a little off...I get seriously tired, hair falls out, skin and nails are dry and brittle, hair texture changes, face gets ashen look...It really affects me! And the flushing too...and weight gain or trouble controlling weight! SO...you might just have that checked!
