Question:
Hernia? How does it feel?
Let's get this part out of the way. I went to see my new PCP yesterday and he has referred me out to bariatrics (I jus switched medical groups....). Anyway, had RNY on 1/31/08. Lately, don't even know how long, I've been having this low grade pain on my left side....right at the location where they took the J-tube from. Every now and again I'll feel a pain, not sharp enough to make me bend over in pain, but definately something I feel. Now it seems like I can feel it towards my navel too. My new PCP told me it could be a hernia, but he'd let the bariatrics team take a look since I had my surgery less than a year ago. I'mjust wondering how it feels. I don't have an appt with bariatrics yet, but they should be calling within a few days with an appiontment. — hatda (posted on October 15, 2008)

I have had 3 hernias and they don't feel good. You ache across your
stomach, when you excerise, or stress it pops up. If you can press your
naval and you feel mush going through that is a bad hernia. Please take
care of that right away. Best wishes to you. Hang in there everything will
be alright. Joyce

I have had many a hernia myself, but not lower in my abdomen like that...
mine were and are in my upper right abdomen from my open gall bladder
surgery.
Usually you will have a bulge that will pop up when you sneeze or cough or
do a crunch with sit ups. It is pretty uncomfortable depending on the size
and location.
You can type in the search bar "abdominal hernias" on the
internet and learn all you care to as there is a lot of info.
Good luck,

I had tons of hernia's over the years. I have never had a bulge or lump. I
had severe burning abd pain. It depends there are different types of
hernia's and locations. With this last hernia I could not sleep on my
stomach for about 3 years and did not know I had a massive hernia again. I
had it fixed when I head my revision to a ERNY. I had mesh put in 2004 and
ripped up and grew to my intestines and caused a big mess inside of me. My
surgeon said he had a hard time removing the mesh because It was so large
and has growen in my body getting stuck every where. No more mesh for me.
You can have a Cat Scan of your abd to see id you have hernia's. Hernia's
can be life threating. Mine killed part of my intestion and had to have the
area's cut out. Good Luck.
