Question:
Is it common for a band to slip and why does it?

Was reading about someone mentioning the band slipping. I ended up with a band and was wondering if this is common? Does it happen often? What would cause the band to slip? How hard is it to fix the problem? Should we worry about that and can I do anything to prevent it from happening?    — JeriBrown (posted on March 8, 2008)

Hi I just had a revision from the band to RNY because of band slippage, my band was inserted in Aug. 03. I had not problems until last may. I ate some bad egg drop soup had food poisoning and it was not a good week, throwing up very often and from all the wretching the band slipped sometimes it will go back in place alone and sometimes its just so bad that it will not, which mine was that case once all testing was done we found that the band had caused erosion and it would have just been way to complicated and might not hae worked for me so I chose the revison to RNY. I am not sure how common it is but it does happen. Good Luck with yours, I loved mine but am pleased with the RNY so far.

Not very common. The most frquent reason is too much PB or vomiting. So eating small bites and chewing well are extra important. Sometimes it is beyond our control such as the previous poster.
