Yea as with any thing with Tricare prime you have to see your dr and get a
referral to see a surgeon.

My hubby is retired and I don't see a base dr. My PCM doctor is the one
that put in the referral for the surgeon.

Yes I had to see my Primary doctor first. He had to fill out paperwork and
I had to have tests done. Once everything was submitted to Tricare I had an
approval with in hours. I had to pay a $350.00 education fee that I did not
get re imbursed for. Tricare said it was covered but the doctor's office
did not submit the right paperwork so they would not pay. Tri care said
they wanted details on what was included in the $350.00. Hope this helps.

I had a general check up and physical but your surgeon may require further
tests depending on your individual situation. My surgeon had me do a sleep
lab test and some sort of abdominal sonar test, it's been so long ago now I
don't exactly remember what that was for. Any updated medical information
you provide (at the time of your visit) for your surgeon may expedite your
evaluation and approval from the insurance company, meaning of course his
staff doesn't have to wait on files, tests, results, etc. to be sent from
other doctors. Hope this helps! Good luck and DON'T GIVE UP!!! Ashley
