Question:
In desperate need of helathy food choices!
I'm almost 2 months out and have lost 45lbs! I'm so happy but I am really starting to have issues with the small selection of food in my diet. I have been living off fat free cottage cheese and low fat string cheese in addition to my unjury shakes. I've had some very soft meats and some veggies to spice it up a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any recipes that might be helpful? Just looking for some variety! Thanks! — Lepp78 (posted on January 18, 2008)

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your success! As for food variety, there
is a poster to the main board who goes by eggface (the avatar is a face in
a skillet made from eggs & bacon). She has a comprehensive list of
recipes that are tasty and easy. You can do a lot with ricotta cheese, try
chili, ff refried beans, soup with a scoop of unflavored protein powder,
soft eggs (I add sauteed mushrooms to mine), egg salad, and protein bars
should be ok now too. I also have to high protein cookbooks I ordered from
Amazon: Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine, and The High
Protein Cookbook by Linda West Eckhardt. You can probably get them through
Borders too, or borrow them thru your local library to see if you would
want them first. Good luck:)

I own a Yahoo group that has Bariatric Recipes for all stages of our Weight
Loss Journey. I have a dietary degree and a culinary degree and I share
recipes on the group to help through the stages.

Eggs, soft fish, etc. www.whfoods.com has a listing of the 55 most protein
rich foods around. Dried peas offer 6 grams of protein per 1/4 cup, and
satisfy the "crunchy" food feeling. I also use the newer designer
tortillas, found at the grocery stores. These are about 10 per package,
come in 5-6 flavors, and have 5-7 grams or protein per tortilla. Cod is
the highest density protein on the web site I listed.

WOW if you are only two months out you are doing wonderful.... for the loss
and also what you are able to eat. It has only been the last couple months
for me that I can eat meat - and then very little. So continue with what
you are doing and good luck.

oops.... anyway every time i go home to canada where our food is raised and
produced differently i come back several pounds lighter (I had my bypass
last march) well i thought co incidence but 3 times nope not co-incidence
so i started going organic...i shop as much as possible at trader joes (1st
cuz i find them less expensive) and at whole foods. YES, YES, YES i know
expensive but ive started loosing weight again...ive changed NOTHING else.
I am actually starting to feel so much better that i am going to the gym in
the morning... I think there is a conspiracy out there to poison the
public...someone out there is making mass money in the pharmaceutical and
healthcare industries who has ties to the food industrisies. I am an
RN...i see things out there that make me cringe.... I see so much
pre-eclampsia out there in the pregnant women that it makes me
shutter.....anyway i hope this helps.... email me or i can give u my phone
number if u need any more info.

I play with seasonings and spices. One of my favorites with soft meat was
to throw chicken and salsa into a crockpot on low for 8hrs. The chicken
comes out supersoft and shreddded, but has a nice kick too. I spend now
about $20 a month just on spices to change it up. I also use WLS cookbooks
for ideas too.

Hi, congratulations to you! I am also 2 months out (surgery 11/26/07) and
have lost about 45 lbs. I am lucky enough to have been able to tolerate
everything I eat so far. I've been past the cottage cheese stage for some
time - I usually eat some kind of chicken, boiled shrimp (about 6), grilled
or smoked salmon, cod, flounder and orange roughy fish, and always with
some broccoli or cauliflower or sauteed mushrooms. I found this recipe last
week that I've made twice now that is low fat and high protein chicken taco
soup that is made in the crockpot - it has black beans, pinto beans,
onions, celery, chicken, taco seasoning, rotel diced tomatoes and chicken
broth. It is VERY good - I ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner for
almost a week! If you want the recipe, let me know & I'll send it! I
am starting to have a hard time with craving breads and pasta but I won't
try any of that until the 5th month. If I get some "munchies" in
the evening then I eat some almonds or cashews. I also have 2 protein
drinks a day. Hope this helps and good luck!!!

You're doin great! Keep it up! I have found that taking some mashed potato
and mixing it with salmon, tilapia or chicken is quite tastey. Also, I
always have soup in the freezer. Not only is it good by itself with a
cracker (melts in your mouth), but it's good to cook with...
