Question:
Hair Loss
How long does it take for the hair loss to stop? I'm 4 months post-op RNY GBP. Why won't the hair on my legs fall off instead of the hair on my head?? Haaa. — mosie555 (posted on September 26, 2007)

My hairloss started almost exactly at my 4 month post op date and slowed
down at about 6.5 months out. It has not stopped completly but I do have
new hair coming in finally. The other thing you have to look forward to in
the oily hair. Your scalp pruduces oils for your hair but it doesn't stop
when you start losing your hair so it is actually produce too much oil so
your hair looks and feels greasy all the time. I ahve not found a shampoo
yet that takes care of it. I have tried over the counter and salon adn
still oily. Good Luck!

Your hair will fall out and thin while you are losing rapidly. There is
nothing that can be done but some say biotin helps. I took it off and on.
I think my hair finally started to look better at about 7 months post op
when my weight loss slowed down. My friend told me that when she
decreased her protein her hair continued to come out. So increase your
protein! I used all natural shampoo and conditioner. That also helped.

I LOVE your sense of humor..... I'm tired of shaving my legs all summer
while the hair is falling out. I'm about 8 months out from surgery and it
did slow down at about 7 months. I did take Biotin (nails were crappy too)
and made sure I was getting enough protein as well. Nails are looking good
again too. Hair isn't really greasy, but really FLAT and Lifeless, time for
another good trim (haircut). I usually go in and tell them I wanna keep any
length, but layer, cut, trim, thin or whatever to give it some volume and
fullness. Hell, go for a WHOLE NEW LOOK, you're on your way now
anyways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Protein, protein, protein is the only way to keep your hair.

God is the only one that has pre determined whether you will lose yr hair
during the post op months. I have kept up my protein and only missed
hitting as much as I should for about 3 days within the first 4 months and
never since then, and I am still losing my hair. My sister, 3 yrs my
senior, (she has always had thin hair, but she didn't lose any hair after
her procedure, so nothing helps. Not even protein. The only thing protein
does is makes it so you don't lose MORE hair. Tomorow I officially hit 6
months and I've already noticed a slow down in my hair loss. I refuse to
cut my hair (it's down to the middle of my back), and I was lucky enough to
start out with super thick hair, so right now it's only thinner, but still
a shock to me. I just pray and know that I am closer to hitting the
"normal" time of no longer losing my hair. I started taking
biotin at 4 1/2 months out, and it seems to be making the re-growth grow at
a faster rate. Like the previous poster, I had problems with getting
fungus under my acrylic nails on 2 of my fingers (I do them myself and have
NEVER had fungus in the 14 yrs that I've been doing them, so I took those
off until I get past this phase. The biotin is definately helping both my
nails and hair. Just hang in there...it will stop when it stops. Good
luck and God bless!
