Question:
After 2 years post-op do I need to keep drinking the protein shake.
I'm doing fine and but these days my energy level has decreased and I stopped drinking the shakes but I'm wondering was that a good idea. — butller24 (posted on May 26, 2007)

It would depend on your purpose. Is it to maintain good protein and
albumin levels? To lose more wt? To maintain your wt? To feel good, have
better skin tone, look better? If you answer yes to any of those, the
answer is yes. I am 13 yrs out, and I use more than average, 180g a day in
protein. But I do 30g protein IN WATER, low cal, carb, etc. So, they are
certainly not empty or wasted calories. Mylabs are better than most.
Generally, if I don't produce my before pic, ppl have trouble accepting
that I was morbidly obese. So, to me, that speaks of good skin tone and a
"healthy look".

I have heard that in order to maintain sound nutrition and energery levels
we need that protein supp. the rest of our lives. And yes it does have a
lot to do with your energy level. My Nut. said 80-100 mg of protein total a
day! Good luck.. Sincerely, Judy R

All depends on your protein levels and what your Nut & Surgeon said to
keep your proteins at. For My surgeons people, we are told to eat our
protein not drink it. It keeps you full longer and a more stable protein.

Hey Dorothy,
Low energy level could be for any reason. Sometime if I don't take my B-12
on the daily I get a little sluggish. I don't think a protein shake would
increase your energy -- although try it and see.

We are going to need protein for the rest of our lives and if you aren't
getting it via food, you NEED to suppliment it with powder, or ready to
drink stuff. Good luck!

are you getting in the recommended 60 grams of protein a day with food??
lack of protein will cause your body to use your muscle mass for energy
which in turn will make you lazy and decreased energy -- good luck to you

I have faced that same dilema. I was not getting in all my protein and
gagged at the thought of a protein drink. I just found Stallone's Protein
Pudding. It has been a God send! It has 20g of protein per serving, is
lactose and sugar free. I thought is would be AWEFULL but it actually is
pretty good. I do add a dollup of coolwhip light and mix it in. You can
find them online and at GNC stores. I went through several weeks of not
getting enough protein in and my labs still came back good. However after I
mentally kicked my own butt and got back to getting it all in I cannot
beleive the difference!
