have you been seen by a cardiologist? WLS is very stressful, some have BP
spikes right before surgery.

Sally, you have a good question, but your doctor is gonna be the best to
answer your question here. I can ask if you have elimated all sodium from
your diet (or most sodium), also, I can ask if you are exercising at all,
these things help stabelize blood pressure. You may be having extreme
anxiety just prior to surgery. Perhaps you don't have peace about having
surgery and you are responding to that just before? It is not unusual to
have a lot of anxiety prior to surgery. God gave me peace before surgery,
as I put my complete trust in Him. I am a Christian, and He is Lord of my
Blood Pressure, it helped me. I don't know how to help you, but I would
advise you to see your doctor and also check nutritional sites for ways to
decrease blood pressure with natural sources as well. Take care, Patricia

Sally.... Blood pressure medications can only do so much. Are your
watching your salt intake and limiting it under 1500mg daily. That is not
only cutting out the salt shaker, but the hidden salt in the foods. You
will be astounded if you are not reading labels now regarding just how much
sodium is in canned and frozen foods. I say 1500mg daily as that is what
you shouldn't exceed if you are trying to control your blood pressure. An
example (pardon me if you already know this, but there may be others who
don't) would be canned soups. A can of soup typically has 2+ servings per
can. And face it all of us know, that preop, we ate the whole can... When
you read the label that single serving can have as much as 1300mg of sodium
in it, which would essentially use up your daily alotment of sodium in just
that one serving. If you don't do so now, start reading the labels.
Frozen foods are notorious for heavy salt as well as lunch meats. Cheese
and milk have quite a bit in them as well. Just read them and be safe. Be
careful with the salt substitutes as they use potassium for the salty
flavor. Doing some exercise, as Patricia said will help in getting the
blood pressure under control. I would suggest something in the water as it
makes it easier to move around and making it easier on the joints. Are you
following closely with your doctor. They are being careful with you
cancelling you three times. I would rather have them do that than take the
very risk of serious complications during surgery. If you are truly and I
mean truly following salt restrictions to the letter, reading labels and
taking your medications faithfully and exercising as much as you can
tolerate, then go back to your doctor and ask if there might be some
hormone imbalance. There are hormone disturbances that can affect how your
kidneys retain or excrete the sodium. Good luck to you...
