If i had to put money on it, I would say you have a stricture. DO NOT wait anytime to get to your surgeon. It is very important for your health. If you do have one, it takes about 5 minutes to fix it. The longer you wait the worst it will get. I have had 5 of them to date. good luck

Maybe you are not chewing your food good enough. That is what happens to me when I don't chew well. But I am not a Dr. so you should call your surgeon. Hope this helps.

Chew chew chew! Food should be the consistency of baby food before you swallow. And eat slow too. Your pouch has awhile to heal since you're only 3 weeks out. If this doesn't help, then you may have a stricture. I've never had one so I don't know what it feels like. Also, are you eating the right things? I tried thinly sliced roast beef too soon and it got stuck and I was MISERABLE. I hope you feel better!

Being only 3 weeks out I'd assume that you are still on at least puree/baby food if not still on liquids. If you are eating regular food now it is way too soon! You need to make sure you chew chew chew and measure your portions. 1/4 cup looks larger than it is and if you are doing it by eye you are going to eat too much and get sick. Either way, discuss this with your surgeon!

If you are trying to eat real food at 3 week out that is what the problem is. My Doc had me on Pureed foods for 6 weeks Then gradually added real food in after that. If you are trying at this point to eat real food. You should have been told what kinds of things to eat in the first 6 weeks if not your Doc was a fool. (they are lots out there) that don't give much help afterwards. Try eating refried beans with cheese, scrambled eggs. Mashed potatoes w a little gravy. no more than 2 to 4 oz. at a time. and never drink liquid with your food. If your food is not pureed make sure you chew chew chew that food. If it does not improve call you Doc ASAP. ARe you able to drink water. you should also be getting in water during your day. Good luck & feel better soon. What kinds of food are you trying to eat???

At this point in the game you should be keeping in very close contact with your surgeon and relating any such problems to him/her. Could be a stricture or the type of food you are eating. Some surgeons create smaller stomas so you will have to chew things to death and watch the types of foods for a long period of time. For others, they have swelling or scar tissue that closes the stoma and if that is the case you need to be seen. Many strictures self-resolve, but that isn't for you to decide...it's for your surgeon to decide. If it's really bad they can put a scope down and dilate the stoma. Don't wait until you can't keep water down...by then it's quite emergent. Keep on the phone with him/her about this. Dina

I am 8 months post op and I still have this problem from time to time if my food is not wet enough. It will feel like it's caught in my throat and then I have to throw up. Chew, chew, chew and also make sure your food is moist. Best wishes!

I agree with Steve. Been there done that. I was a month out the first time and had to have my stoma dilated 4 times. The problem is that the a leary about opening it too wide, so that is probably the reason it takes more than once. That's just what I think. It doesn't count for much. I am now almost 2 years out and rarely ever vomit any more. Of course I know before I swallow that last bite that if I swallow one more bite I will throw up everything I just ate....Deb

Susie, I was having the same problem. I had a upper GI done because I thought it was a stricture. Turned out to be Acid Reflux (severe). I am 2 months post op and some solid foods still feel like they get stuck and it burns really bad. I have to vomit for relief. But the doctor put me on Prevacid twice a day and it seems to be helping.
