The nurses told the pre-op group I was in that if H-pylori showed up that
you would have to do antibiotics and that you could not have the surgery
until it was gone. It would just postpone your surgery, not keep you from
having it. I'm sure you can ask anyone from the bariatric center you are
dealing with and they would be able to tell you more.

I had H pylori 3 times and even with the meds, it didn't go away. And still
had the surgery May 2005. It depends on the doctor. Each has their own way
of doin things. My Dr. consulted with my gastro Dr. and they agreed it was
ok to go ahead. I've had no problems. Even if they postpone it, no harm, it
will happen. Good luck and God Bless. You are in for the ride of your life.

I had h. pylori, took the drugs, and it went away. Then I had the surgery.

I have had h pylori twice....including currently (8 weeks post op). My
surgeon preferred treatment before surgery but that did not work out and I
am currently under treatment. I agree...it just depends on the surgeon but
IMHO I don't think it should prevent you from having the surgery.
