Question:
Has anyone experinced their first dumping almost a year after WLS?
I have been having terrible episodes of it. My energy all of a sudden runs out, my heart starts racing and I feel the need to throw up. — Gayle D. (posted on May 4, 2006)

Yes, I dumped at a little over a year out on DQ. For me I think it was
because I was starting to push the envelope a little too much and eating
too much trash.

Gayle, some people dump to a certain level indefinitely. I will be 3 years
out in June. I NEVER "dumped" like most post-ops and never
vomited. Instead, I had my own style of what I called dumping, which is a
horrific pain on the left side of my upper tummy area where the T junction
is, to the point that I thought I was going to need to be wheeled to the
ER, lasting about 45 minutes of pure agony. That, my friend, even occurred
three weeks ago. What did I dump on? I am not sure, I was having nothing
crazy or out of the ordinary. My three friends who are also 3+ out, dump
on a pretty regular basis WHEN eating things they should not. So, it is
not surprising to see dumping at one year. I have not heard of any
graduate who completely does not dump at all. Maybe we should post that
and see if we get any responses. Missy (268/120).

I have aleways had a mild dumping, ick feeling. Just ONCE I ate a 25 cent
brownie at a church festival and ended up home in bed for several hours,
felt like I was dying. this occured at over 2 years out. Dont know what was
in that tiny brownie but it sure tasted good and I paid the price.
Interestingly I woke up feeling woonderful and had unlimited energy. spent
the rest of the day working on a friends yard with a chainsaw. So yeah it
can happen...

HOw long after food does it occur? I'm thinking it might be hypoglycemia
vs dumping. The sudden part is what intrigues me

I'm like Bob......have had a general icky feeling after some foods but
never full fledged dumping until about two months ago. I have been very
strick in avoiding sugar but for some reason on that day, my brains fell
out and I ate an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Thought I was going to die
and wanted to! Have not touched sugar since that day. I am 2 and 1/2
years out from surgery and that was my first real experience with dumping.
I just got careless.

I am 2.5 years post op, and once in awhile, I will eat to fast, eat the
wrong thing, etc. and I dump. It always surprises me, but I am so thankful
that my tool is still working. Once I get dune with the dumping, I am real
careful for awhile.

I find if I eat meat or chicken too quickly and don't chew it properly or
drink a milkshake too fast, it comes back up about ten minutes later after
I get a 'weird feeling'. surprisng it is just the one thing not the whole
meal!
