Question:
mountain dew
Was anyone else addicted to Mountain Pre-op? Have you had any since surgery. It was my favorite but I haven't had any in 5 months and still crave it sometimes. — jengriggs01 (posted on February 4, 2006)

i know how you feel!! I had a dew everyday! I just made the switch to diet
dew. It was hard for me to adjust to the taste so i just had to keep
reminding myself that if i really wanted, or in my case, needed my dew this
was the only choice that i had. It has been almost 4 years since my surgery
and today i still do the diet dew! I have one 24oz. bottle starting in the
morning and i usually finish it at about 11:00 am then I start my water for
the day. If you truly love the dew the switch will be worth it. It has not
seemed to harm my "diet" in any way.

Mine was diet lime coke and I have not had one since around June 28th.
Sometimes I miss it but not very often. My doc does not allow any soda's
because of the carbonation. My family still drinks them but I just drink
Crystal Light or Fruit Freshers. I found when I stopped drinking soda's I
dropped almost 10 lbs. so that really keeps me off of them.

Missy- Do you drink it with all the carbonation or do you drink it flat.
I thought that carbonation strectches your stomach. My doctor says that I
can have diet if I stir the carbonation out of it but I'm afraid that if I
do that I will start drinking regular soda again. I don't dump or anything
so I don't think it would make me sick. And I make sure the soda I buy my
husband is something I don't like such as Dr. Pepper.

Stir in artifical sweetner of your choice into diet pop. It makes it taste
more like regular. And the best part of it is it takes out most of the
carbonation!

Mine was coke....I went to the diet and it didn't taste any thing like the
real thing so I stopped it all. I went to brewing tea. Can't have it iced
down so I don't like that either. They say your taste will change. Mine
has and wonder for how long. I can't stand the taste of our house water and
am now buying bottle.

Before surgery I had to have any Coke or Diet Pepesi or an occassional Diet
Mountain Dew. When surgery approached I stopped all caffeine and soda. I
was allowed to start drinking soda after six months and have maybe one a
day. I drink only caffeine free and diet. Fresca, Diet/Caffeine Free
Pepsi, Diet Rite or A&W Diet Cream Soda or Root Beer also have switched
to Decaf coffee which is what I missed the most out of everything. I
myself stay away from caffeine since it can stimulate your appetite. I
went six months without it and find that I don't really miss it so when I
do drink it-it feels like a sweet treat.

I had surgery 3 years ago and have never had any carbonated drinks since I
had my surgery. I was addicted to pepsi. I even let the fiss go out and
tried it that way but couldn't stand the taste any longer. I don't do the
carbonated drinks cause my cousin had the surgery and her stomach blew up
because of the pop and also my doctor told me I had to stay away from pop
the rest of my life. That is the price I have had to pay for having the
surgery done. I have lost 200 pounds and it has been worth every pepsi I
gave up.

Lana, I'm with you. I am 2-1/2 years out, down to a size 4, lost 148
pounds, and have not had a carbonated drink, diet or otherwise, since my
surgery. My doc told me that it was bad for my stoma, and as it is I dump
very little so I can eat anything, and I don't need one more thing that
might jeopardize my loss or returning to 268 pounds. Definitely worth the
small price I have to pay. Missy.

LOL - my doctor said no carbonated beverages after the surgery, because
they can cause gas which causes yor stomach to strretch. So I hav had no
soda since surgery! I used to drink several diet Sprites every day!

I loved diet coke. I am 3 years out and not had any type of carbonated
drink. I dont eat any type of refined sugar either. The choice is
yours...but I'll stay away from it all> I love being told by my
internist I am the picture of health, all labs are perfect and he says he
doesnt care if I lose anymore weight or not.

I agree. It would be better NEVER to have a pop again. However for me, I'd
never give it up completely. But I respect those who do! However as far as
stretching out the pouch.... well I don't know about other people here, but
I have an opening on each end. With one I burp and the other I
toot...<wink> so the pouch does'nt like the little carbonation left
(after my artifical sugar flattens it) then the gas goes out
"one direction or another"! Compliments of a creator God's
design. snicker. ;)
