I think it's always best to listen to your body. If food isn't going down
well, and you want to go back to liquids for a day to give your body a
rest, then do it. Just don't be afraid to go back to food. Remember to chew
things to liquid. As for the bad taste, I am 5 weeks post op, and I STILL
have the bad taste. It has something to do with ketosis, from what I've
read. Hang in there, it will get better!!

Hi Gina,
You may be trying to eat too much. I had the same problem early on as a
bpd/ds patient, only it didn't feel stuck in my tummy, but instead felt
like it stuck in my esophogus (my chest). The only relief was to throw it
back up. I soon learned that this was the warning sign that I had eaten too
fast or too much. You should only be able to consume a few teaspoons of
foods such as apple sauce, yogurt, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, or soft boiled
eggs at this stage (full liquids). Do not attempt anything else at this
stage until you can comfortably eat these and keep them down.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me. Also, at
this stage, the most important thing for you to do is concentrate on
getting your fluids, 64 oz. At 12 days post-op, this is probably
impossible, but you should be working toward that goal.

If you h ave any more questions, please feel free to email me.

No worries my friend!! What happens is that there is some swelling at the
junction between the esophagus and the stomach (it's a sympathetic
reaction, I dont believe they
really know why it happens) and your food sits there...until it 'plops'
into your stomach! It eventually gets less and less swollen - so THIS WILL
GO AWAY!! I also felt very bloated - and had a rotten taste in my mouth
after surgery. Give it to about week four or five - and you will be just
fine!!! About two or three more days and you will be out of the worst of
it :) Email me if you wanna talk! I had the BDP/DS on 12/9/02 and I am
feeling great!! [email protected]
