Question:
Can you have hernia removal and Rouen-y at the same time???

Stephanie, I had a hernia repair done at the same time as my weight loss
surgery in addition to the removal of adhesions from previous c-sections
and a cholycystectomy (gallbladder removal). My surgeon told me that in
almost 80% of his patients, because of obesity, there are hernias that need
repairing so he has no problem doing so at the time of the RNY. Hope this
helps you! Hugs, Kathie (in Hawaii..............)

I had a lap RNY 7-11-02 and while he was "in the area" my surgeon
fixed an umbilical hernia I didn't even know I had! A lady I work with had
the same procedure by the same surgeon just 3 1/2 weeks ago and she also
had an umbilical hernia repair..........again, she didn't even know she had
the hernia. I think it depends on where the hernia is, but from everyone I
have talked to, most surgeons are pretty much of the attitude, if it is
broke and in the same general area, let's fix it while we're in the
neighborhood!

Had - um have a hernia that surgeon offered to repair but it is way down
near my c-section scar and he said that to do it would have meant a cut
from stem to stern so "we" opted against it. Otherwise I could
have said yes and he would have done so.

Hi Stephanie - I had my RNY in April. When I woke up in recovery my
surgeon told me that I had an umbilical hernia that he repaired while he
was "in the area anyway". I suspected that I had it but no one
had ever mentioned it before I had the surgery. It was never an issue and
it was never mentioned again. I just avoided lifting anything heavy for a
few weeks after the surgery. This shouldn't preclude you from having the
surgery. Good luck! - Mike
