Question:
Has anyone in texas received social security for morbid obesity
I am attempting to apply for ssi, but I'm not sure if they will give it to me. At 435lbs it is really tough moving around let alone trying to go out and work. Any feedback would be appreciated. — mischief85 (posted on May 20, 2002)

I applied for and got SS Disability for Morbid Obesity back in 1998 and
have been on it ever since. Medicare paid for my WLS and I also have what
is called Medicaid QMB(Qualified Medicare Benificiary) Coverage thru the
Dept. of Human Services which pays for your monthly Medicare premiums AND
the 20% Medicare doesnt pay. When I applied I weighed about 380 or 390
lbs, had high blood pressure and could barely get around due to all the
weight. I was found out later that I was diabetic. Good luck and IF they
do deny you, get a lawyer! I was already prepared to do that and was
really surprised when I had NO problems whatsoever getting approved for the
SS Disability!

Hi, I just want to let you know that you cannot apply for social security
based on weight alone. You have to have something else that keeps you from
not being able to work in any job. It used to be a law where they paid for
morbid obesity, but not anymore. Good Luck and God Bless!
