Question:
how to count your protien drink towards your daily 64 oz.
When I make my protien drinks I add 8 oz of skim milk. Once the shake is miked its more like 14oz. So, does it count as 8 or 14?? — Jessikah54 (posted on September 25, 2010)

Okay here goes, milk is around 8 grams of protein. Now look at the protein
count on the container and see how much protein there is in one scoop, i.e.
if the scoop says it is 25 grams. You would add 8 grams of protein from
the milk and 25 grams from the protein shake. Now you have 33 grams of
protein.

I'm not sure if you are asking about the protein content or the 64 oz of
water that you are to take in.. BUT.. any liquid you are taking in, counts
towards your daily water intake. So a 14 oz drink (water and milk
combined) leaves you with 50 oz's to go ! I am 9 mos. post op and down 125
lbs.. I still drink two protein drinks a day (35 g each in 12 oz cans) and
count that 24 oz as part of my water intake for the day. That and a few
protein drinks (I like the Pro-15Ti brand in Peach Mango and Wildberry
which are 15 g each) and i've more than gotten my water and protein in for
the day after having two of them with 20 oz of water each (because I find
them too sweet mixed with 8 oz of water). Works for me and I can still
have small meals during the day. Best of luck.......

The Doctors and newbies are all hot on protein drinks. Think about it
before this surgery the protein drinks were only made for bodybuilders.
Why?? Because it helped them bulk up. You are not going to die because you
didn't get all your protein in the first year. In fact the first year out
you should concentrate on drinking water. (No, substituting water in your
protein drink doesn't count. Your body needs plain water) Walking, and
introducing your small tummy to food again. You will not be able to
tolerate some food because you had major surgery done on your tummy but
eventually it will. You must eat 6 small meals a day so your body can burn
the fat and relearn to digest food. Protein drinks are not food. I will
never forget when my surgeon told me to eat. Ironically since eating got me
here.
The first year is all about the weight rapidly melting away. If you don't
eat then your body will still try and hold onto the fat. Once your body
realises you still are fueling it with food it will let go of the fat. The
slower the better and healthier. You may be losing now with all the protein
you are consuming but I feel you are confusing your body and later on 2 - 3
years out is when people start gaining all there weight back. (Bulking
out). I have never used protein drinks I ate. I am almost 7 years out and
I am a healthy 130 LBS still. If I gain its 5 - 6 lbs from junking
out(candy mostly). But once I stop the weight comes off. Just an FYI

I am 4 weeks po. I count it as 14. Make sure u don't count all the extra
foam on the top. I drink 2 14oz shakes of HDT Pro Blend 55 (chocolate
fudge) one in the morning on at night. In between I drink the rest in
water. Water is important.

Hi! I am not typical I guess...I always under estimated, so I made sure
to get enough..if I measured out 8 oz of milk..I counted it as 8
ounces..that way I always got enough..also ..I have heard from numerous
resources that your body only absorbs 20-30 grams of protein in an
hour...so don't try to bulk up your drinks too much and consume it too
quickly....as it will be lost...also I found that if I drink a protein
drink, I try to wait a lil bit before drinking anything else, so I do not
flush the drink thru too quickly. You cannot consume too much liquid
so..counting your drink as 8 ounces and then getting 64 is great! also try
flavoring the v-8 juice..I put garlic powder n black pepper in either v-8
or chicken broth and it 'feels' like food but is a liquid. Good luck on
your joourney! hugs n God Bless, Kim
