Question:
Post op RNY Falling asleep after eatting?
I am almost 6 months post-op RNY. Now I noticed after eating anything I have a strong desire to sleep! I have a salad..sleep! A chicken breast... sleep. Can this be a sugar issue? I geta rush of energy followed by a strong desire to shut my eyes and pass out! So bad that I am thinking maybe I should just drink shakes at work? They don't put me to sleep. Ugh? Anyone had this problem? — Medicfem (posted on May 5, 2010)

I think that a lot of post-ops have this issue - I certainly do, almost a
year out. My dr has told me that it's reactive hypoglycemia. I've had to
add a little bit of extra complex carb to my food and that tends to help a
lot, but I still have issues. The crazy thing is that if I eat all protein
(or even just a good protein w/ a little veggies) it's the worst and I'll
end up having to have come type of sugar about 30-45 minutes later. I do
test my sugar and sure enough, it dips drastically 30-60 min after I eat. I
don't use sweet sauces or anything wiht my food, don't really eat processed
food. Can't really explain it. Still learning to work through it.

I'm episodically hypoglycemic and when my sugar is dropping I fall asleep
really quick. You may have the same problem.
