I'm sorry - maybe I'm being dense or insensitive, but what's
"devensive"? And what's an MMPI?

Hello-
The MMPI is a personality measure. When someone produces a profile that is
defensive it simply means that according to the test you were not answering
the questions honestly. This usually means that you were either faking
good or faking bad. It just means you were not answering the questions
consistently- because there are over 500 questions- many are asked more
than once in a different way- if you produce too many responses in which
your answers to the matched questions are inconsistent then you will
produce a defensive profile. If you are able to take it over or if you are
given any other personality measure just relax, take a deep breath and try
to be as honest as possible.
I hope that helps and good luck.

Minesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory = MMPI. It is designed to
approach the way you think and react from several different angles. If you
are not consistent in your responses when they are asked in a paraphrased
form, it shows up as defensive or evasive. Basically when it is used, they
are trying to see if you have your head together enough and have enough
character to be able to handle the surgery and the commitment that it takes
to succeed. They don't want to waste their time and allow you to waste your
time and have a very serious surgery unless you are mentally prepared and
stable enough to follow through with it. It's not trying to pry into your
deepest darkest secrets, and very seldom are your answers actually pored
over. They use a grading tool to read it. Hang in there. It's worth it when
you see your life being restored and the world becomes a much nicer place
to live in. :)
