Question:
Has anyone gained weight after lapband surgery
I had my lapband done in June. I have lost 25lbs. I am very hungry all the time and I do not feel restricted at all. I can eat anything and not feel full. Why is this? I thought if I ate it would help to make me feel full. I know I am not eating the right foods, but why am I not full? — janetcarrano (posted on December 20, 2009)

I have gained back 60 of 90pds lost. This is due to poor excercise and
nutrition. I have limited education about my surgery or life post op. I
have to have major surgery from an injury that layed me up over a year and
I just gave up. I have not gotten back on the healthy road - but it is my
new years goal to try and at least put forth effort. I find as time goes
on I do not feel full or have 'dumping' much anymore. I only had those
feelings the first year, I am not sure why they went away- maybe just my
body adjusting. I can now only tell I am full or ate too much sugar if I
am in severe pain.

I know lots of people who gained weight with the lapband. I recommend a
revision for every lap bander and I recommend that people stop doing this
surgery. I know a surgeon who refuses to do this surgery anymore - he and
a few more have decided that by and large it is an unsuccessful surgery.

When was the last fill? Isn't that what you are supposed to be doing when
your hunger is out of control? I have to go in every month for the first
year to be monitored. Sounds to me like you haven't found the sweet spot?
I'm sorry. Good luck though, and I hope you can get some help!

One thing is to get to your doctor and have a fill and a discussion. Your
doctor is one of your best resources. Also, do you have a nutritionist
through your doctor that you can talk to and get help on a eating plan?
Also, you might look into a post surgery support group for help.

I do not know how anyone can sit and say that they should stop doing
lapband surgery. Thats a bunch of bull. No surgery is going to work if you
do not work with it. I know plenty of people who have had Gastric bypass
and have gained most if not all their weight back. So before I take the
advice to get a revsion I would certainly speak with my doctor about an
adjust. I have had lapband for 3.5 yrs and have had nothing but success
with it. Have many friends who have gotten it as well and it was because of
my success. They are doing well with it also. I have also had no probem in
maintaining my weight loss. I had reached my goal weight within the first 8
months. So speak with your doctor and see what he suggest. Lapband is by
far one of the safest weight loss surgeries. I have a friend who had the
Gastric Sleeve done in Aug and was at deaths door the first 2 months after
surgery because of a leak. He has not ate or drank one thing since Aug. He
is fed with a through a tube. So certainly I would do alot of soul
searching, and speaking with my doctor before I ever considered a revision.
I do wish you the best of luck!
