Question:
dentures
Does anyone wear dentures and if so when did you have to remove them. Also what exactly happens the day of surgery. I hear all different stories. — cuppaloopy (posted on October 7, 2009)

I had gastric bypass in August 2002. I am now 39 yrs old and had to get
dentures 2 yrs ago. Having dentures is very difficult for me. As for the
day of surgery was pretty easy, I went in and they removed all my teeth, I
went without any teeth for about 2 weeks. Then I went it and got the
detures and had to go back several times to get them adjusted. My uppers
stay in pretty well, but my bottoms have to be put in 3 to 4 times a day,
and they rub on the bottom of my gums and make sores.

Hi..I had my dentures a yr before surg. When I got to the hospital was
checked in I removed them just before(4/1/08) surgery. One of my issues
since losing 135 lbs is my dentures needs to be replaced. They do NOT fit
at all now. Which is why I have alot of trbl chewing well. I'm not in a
position to replace them with new ones. Wish you well..not matter what I
would not of changed a thing!

Yes you do have to remove them for surgery. However my nurse let me wait
until I was in the operating room and she put them back in for me in
recovery. So no one but the med group was any the wiser :)

When I told my dentist I was having WLS, he said when I reached goal he
would re-align my upper plate free of charge, which he did in March 2007.
If your dentures do not fit properly because of the weight loss, try having
them aligned first-less expensive than replacing them.
