Usually the honeymoon is over by 18mos post surgery (RNY)So regardless of whether you reached your goal or not it gets harder to lose weight after that. Not impossible, but harder, especiallly if you have been bending the rules a bit.Patients who keep on losing past thier goal is the exception, not the rule.

I was suppose to stop losing weight months ago and didn't. I had to increase my meals to 4 a day and my calorie intake to 1300. I still didn't stop..so now I am at 4 meals and 1 snack and 1300-1500 calories..which isn't easy to do . Try eating that much when the dietian wants you to maintain a 4-5 ounce meal..It isn't easy, but it is possible to stop losing. I have been at my current weight of 118 for about 1.5 to 2 months. I am 45 yrs old and 13 months out. Best of luck! hugs, kim

I had this exact same question when I was about where you are now. My Dr. told me that our bodies tend to slow down and stop on their own. That is pretty much exactly what I have done. I lost 85 lbs the first five months, 40 lbs the second five, and now 10 the last five. I have more or less been maintaining a steady weight for a while now.

You will stop losing if you eat the right amount of calories. If you are eating less then you alloted calorie intake you will keep losing weight. If you eat the right amount of calories you will maintain your goal weight. In order for me to maintain my 1200 cal. diet, I snack all day on healthy items. I can't eat just three meals a day and expect to get 1200 calories in, I can't eat that much. So that is how you stop losing weight.

Thank you very much for asking this question... I have been wondering for about a month now. I reached my goal a month ago and even after hysterectomy I keep loosing. My husband is a little concerned. Now I know... I just increase from 900 cal to 1000 or 1100 until I figure out what the majic number is for me.

I hit my goal at 6 months. So needless to say, I kept on losing for some time after that. I saw my (NUT) every few weeks to make sure I was losing weight/fat and not losing muscle. I increased my calorie intake and slowed down my cardio intake and sub'ed in more strength training on those days of cardio cancellation. I also had to add an additional meal at one point as well. I would say - as you get closer to your goal. See your NUT, or PCP or surgeon and work out a plan. That is what I did and I don't regret it. The plan of action for me to maintain was great and worked for me. Good luck to you.
