Question:
Has anyone ever had the Band removed?

Yes, unfortunately. My first surgeon placed the band around my esophagus instead of my stomach. I suffered with this for two years before my current surgeon found it and placed it correctly. Too late! Too much damage had been done and this February it was removed and a gastric bypass was done.

OH, YES!! I had trouble with my lapband from the very beginning! It always caused me pain to try to eat, lots of throwing up, coughing at night, acid reflux, etc. I stuck with it for a little over 2 years and lost 75 lbs. Had to have emergency surgery to remove it when it caused my pouch to be distended. The pouch became huge above the band. After having it removed I regained the 75 lbs. plus more. Last May I had gastric bypass surgery and I've lost 100 lbs. so far with absolutely no problems.

Yes, I had to have mine removed, 18 months ago. I was allergic to it. It migrated into my stomach, wrapped around my liver, and caused a fistula (tunnel) to form between my stomach and lung. Had lost 110#, have gained 90 back. Was too messed up inside to have the bypass... and now working on getting that done.

I had the band removed a year ago, I lost 80 lbs from being sick from the band, It was removed due to a horrible infection. I couldn't eat food for almost 3 1/2 months, just liquids. I am getting RNY next month.
