Congratulation on losing 40 lbs! That's alot of weight. If you stick to what you should eat and you lose slower, it will just be that much better for the skin. You will hit plateaus, and your body will fight to hang onto the weight. That is to be expected. Soon you won't have any clothes to wear because you've lost so much! Keep on keeping on!!! You will get there! Lesleigh in Ga. Lesleigh in Ga.

I understand how you're feeling.... Sweets were my biggest issue before I had my surgery. You will go through a "withdrawal" period over sugar, just like a drug-addict or alcoholic would.... You may go through a "mourning" period, as if you feel sad like someone died or something.... It's normal, you just need to give your self time to adjust to your new life and new way of eating... Food and sweets were a "comfort" to me; I ate sweets when I was sad, mad, happy, tired, whatever... and now that's not an option. Now, food is sustain us as fuel, it's not to "comfort" us. This new view of food takes time to adjust to..... Little by little, I got over that. Now, I walk in to Dunkin Donuts and order a Sugar-free Skim milk, Decaf Hot Latte, and barely even glance at the Donuts or Bagels. It took me some time to get that way, but I did. Just focus on how healthy you're getting, how much thinner you're getting, look at Catalogs with clothes in smaller sizes that you'll be fitting in to, and feel positive; look at everything in a positive manner. Think about how it feels sooooo good not to use food as a "crutch". Feel PROUD of yourself when you walk by that bowl of chocolates someone set-out at work. Tell yourself, "ha! NO WAY, it's not worth it, let those other poor pathetic creatures eat that crap, I am better than that!" Feel GOOD about it! We are sooooooooo lucky to have had surgery; there are so many people who desperately need and want it, but can't afford it or don't have insurance, or can't get approved. We are soooooo fortunate, REJOICE in your good fortune.... Get happy and see how wonderful your life now is! Best wishes!

Hi Elvira, I can understand how you feel. I get sad a lot. I live in the New Haven to Middletown [CT] area and am thinking of starting a support group after January 1st. I will "friend" you on OH dot com/ and let you know if I get this organized! Meanwhile, what about a group in the Hartford area? Even TOPS or OA .. people to talk to about food & weight issues. Also, remember, this is a very difficult time of year for most people. And I think this is especially true for those of us with "food issues". Try not to be too hard on yourself, keep up the great work, and hang in there. I will let you know about the group - if you don't hear, write me a note at OH!!! Thanks - take care, Barbara:)

Hi Elvira, I had my lap band surgery 10/17/08 and the first two weeks I thought I was dieing. I really thought I messed up. I got through that period and am now down 32 lbs. According to my on line pals and my personal friends that have also had the procedure I am pretty much on track. I craved "food". I have a major weakness for pastry. It has been a constant struggle to pass up the office donuts and sweets that are always around the coffee pot. But after I finally saw a significant loss I found that m health and my self esteem were more important than eating what I know I shouldnt. Anyway I know you can get through this. Us women are made of special stuff. lol Keep up the awesome weight loss and drop me a line anytime if you want too. Picture 40 lbs of potatoes and that is what you have shed!! Wow THAT IS SOME REASON TO BE PROUD OF YOURSELF! Merry Christmas and a very B"less"ed New Year. Brenda

Hi. I looked at your profile but there was none. I had VSG on 10-27-08 and I have only lost 25 pounds so far. Your 40 pounds is GREAT. Be proud of yourself. A friend told me some good advice, don't weight yourself every day as it will fluctuate a bit each day and don't compare yourself to others in weight loss as each of us is different. Feel free to contact me anytime. Chell1957

Craving sweets probably means you have an addiction type thing. The only thing you can do is not eat them-we both know that's not as easy as it sounds. But the longer you go without them, the easier it will be to forget about them. you might even get to the point that any sweet is too sweet and that will mean you have done a great job in using WLS tool. good luck

Hi, I had RNY on the same day as you and have lost 40lbs also so that must be the norm. I crave sweets like mad! I also crave fatty foods. I have learned the hard way not to give in because I get dumping syndrome. I have done some baking with Splenda and I can tolerate that well. I drink protein shakes in the am so I can be sure to get my protein in, then I can pretty much have what I want the rest of the day as long as I space the meals about three hours apart and watch the fat and sugar. I went shopping christmas eve and had a four peice chicken tenders from BK at the mall and it did not bother me, I cut them into small pieces and chewed very well, it took me 30 minutes to eat them all but I did not dump and I feel like I got a good meal. Just keep with your program, you are doing great and I would like to keep in touch since out surgery was the same day

Wow, I think you are doing great.... wish I was at that lose already. I had RNY (revision first surgery 10 years ago) on Nov. 20, 2008 I am only down 20 lbs in a month. I am told that the 2nd time is not as fast. Also we are all different in the amount we lose in the time frame. Different speeds due to different food we eat. We have to burn up more than we take in. I know I have been eating sugar free popscicles from Kroger and they are something I need to give up. Lets hook up and be friends would love to stay in touch. Monica Hayman - Houston Texas

First of all, congrats on your weight loss great job! I had RNY surgery on 10-22-08 down 47 lbs so we are right there together. I don't have constant cravings for sweets but between Thansgiving and Christmas I have definately wanted a slice of cake or two. LOL With this WLS everyone is different. I don't know how easily you dump, but I've dumped from really sweet fruit so I KNOW I won't be having any slices of cake. Have you tried any sweets made with Splenda? My mother made a pound cake for Christmas with it for my dad who's a diabetic and he said it was good. Try this site. http://splenda.allrecipes.com/Index/Index.aspx?nodeid=7 Even sweets made with Splenda may not be good all the time but I don't think it would hurt occasionally. As far as your weigh loss slowing down, are you exercising? I definately feel like my weight loss slows down if I slack off on my exercising. Please don't get sad or discouraged we've done a great thing for ourselves you should be proud. Just think of how great you'll look and feel by the summer when we peel off all these clothes. Keep up the great work! If you need someone to talk to just hit me up. a_voluptuous_one
