Question:
Just made appointment
I just made an appointment with Dr Shin for December 2, 2008. I have already done over 6 months with my Family Dr. How will it be until I can have the surgery? I have PEIA for insurance does anyone know how long some of this will take to get everything done. — lscheller (posted on October 5, 2008)

Well the appt with your surgeon is a couple of months off. They will
provide you with a list of tests that you will have to have. If your
insurance requires a pysch evaluation then you will have to do that as
well. I don't know about your insurance and how long it will take to get
approved -- could take 2 days to 2 weeks; however, just let the surgeons
office take care of that. Some suggestions that I have that you could keep
doing -- keep walking; stop drinking fluids 30 minutes before and after
your meal, plus no fluids during your meal. You will not be able to do
this after the surgery. The fluids will watch the nutrients from your meal
out of your body. Keep working out -- losing the weight shrinks your liver
and provides more room for the surgeon to work and makes their job easier.
Talk to your stomach (I know this sounds crazy) and let your stomach know
that it is about to go through some changes; however, those changes are for
the better. Start visualizing a smaller you (which I'd have thought of
that before now) --this way you'll be removing the current picture out of
your mind and mental state to see the little you. Trust me --when I
realized I wasn't 290 anymore but 180 and realized the physical body people
were seeing - it tripped me out because I was still seeing the big me and
not the little me. So now I got body image issues. Write me any time and
congratulations on your decision. You will not regret it.
