Question:
I'm 63yrs old and I am hoping to have my surgery in Jan or Feb.
Is there anyone else my age that has had this operation? If so please let me know how you do. Margo — poorgirl45 (posted on September 30, 2008)

Hi Margo
I am 63 and had laproscopic RnY past 5/22, starting at 375. I have lost 108
pounds since Aug, 2007 when I started the process. The whole process has
been very successful for me. I lost 40 pounds before the surgery date and
have lost 68 pounds to date since the surgery. I chose to have the surgery
because I have to have knee replacement surgery - or end up in a
wheelchair. I have not had any problems at all - recovery went very well, I
have easily changed my diet, and my mental outlook has remained positive. I
have made it through occasional plateaus that got me down at first, but I
now understand that they occur and pass. With help of my doc I have figured
out how to avoid the constipation issue, which has been the only physical
problem I have had to deal with.
I have had tremendous support from family and friends which is so
important. Good luck to you.

I was sixty four on Aug 4 08 when I lapband surgery. I spent the night in
the hospital. I may have taken a few naps during the week or so after
surgery, but other than that, my recovery has been uneventful. I might
point out that I lost maybe 35 pounds prior to surgery via diet and
exercise and I still am exercising 4 to 5 days a week. I am going for my
first fill tomorrow. I have lost 10 lbs after surgery.

62 here - had the Band and also 4 plastic surgeries. Walking marathons and
doing great. Be patient with yourself. Our metabolism and healing rate is a
little slower. If you pass all the medical pre op tests, your healthy
enough to have the surgery.

I was one month shy of being 66 in March 2008 when I had my RNY. It has
been great! No problems just super benefits. I have lost 50 pounds in six
months and am 10 pounds from goal. No longer a diabetic and off of all
that medication plus blood pressure meds. All is normal. My A1C is now
5.9! Best thing I ever did! Go for it and best of everything! (Feel free
to check my profile--I have tons of pictures.)

I am 61 and am scheduled for surgery on the 10th of October. My sister who
is 58 had the RNY 6 months ago and has lost just over 100 pounds. It has
changed her life and greatly improved her health. I am hoping to do the
same.

I'm 59 and just had this surgery on September 30, 08 and am doing fine. All
I can say is find a great doctor to do it. One that had caring nurses that
have a program and support team meeting for their pactients. Pluse a
hospital that has been rated for Gastric bypass. My had the star of
excellence. And my doctor was rated A++++++ with 0 mortality rating.
Plus you should be made to have a full phy. plus blood work and that will
tell you if you are ready health wise but only you can tell if this is what
you truly want if approved, GOD BLESS and I'll pray for all the right
answer to be give to you in GOD"S time.
