Question:
Could drinking milk with protein shakes slow down weight loss?
The protein shakes taste worse with anything other than milk. I was wondering if this ill slow down weight loss. Havn't found any thing else that taste good with shakes. — Toby2 (posted on August 22, 2008)

As long as it is 1% or skim milk. I took mine with Skim Milk and actually
like them, but I hate skim milk by its self.

I don't have an exact answer to your question, However, I have found a
protein shake called "ProNos" at GNC that you make with water and
I LOVE IT!! I am all about flavor and if it taste like crap, I won't drink
it. I LOVE the vanilla and really like the chocolate. Give that a try.
Good Luck!

While I was pregnant I started using milk in my protein shakes and I also
used yogurt. Sometimes both, sometimes just one or the other. I also
added strawberries and/or blueberries or any relatively "low
sugar" fruit. You need to have the protein and if you can't stand it
you're apt to stop using it. The added milk and or yogurt should not slow
the weight loss too much and you get the calcium. Besides, it isn't bad to
lose at a slower pace. When you lose a little slower your body adjusts to
the changes better and seems to have fewer plateaus.

I use calorie countdown milk made by Hood. Most stores have it in 2% white
& chocolate. I have found 1 store that carries the fat free version
(Bi-Lo). It tastes great & it has 5 carbs. per serving compared to 13
carbs. in regular 1% milk.

Anytime you add extra calories could be a problem, sure...It all depends on
if you are getting too many calories. Leaner means less calories. Usually
new post ops shouldn't worry about calories as they just can't eat enough
at first anyway.
It's not the olympics! Your body will lose at it's own pace and it takes a
good year to lose all your weight. Losing weight toooo fast is VERY
unhealthy...Look at the hair loss and tiredness and slow healing...Once you
can eat enough protein to make yourself healthier...the weight does slow
down...It's a slow process but the fastest you'll ever do it is now....a
few lbs a month....

I mix my chocolate protein shakes with Lite Chocolate or Lite Vanilla Soy
Milk. It tastes MUCH better than water, and since it's flavored, I think it
tastes better than 'regular' milk, too. (
Also, since the surgery I've become lactose intolerant, so too much
'regular' milk can make me sick). I don't like drinking soy milk plain, but
mixed in the shakes makes it delicious! If I can't find Lite I'll use
regular, but the Lite helps me knock down some calories. I've found Trader
Joe's to have the best prices on chocolate or vanilla soy milk.

milk has 1gram of protein per ounce -- so if you mix your protein with 8
oz of milk you are getting 8 grams of protein -- it won't slow down your
weight loss -- milk is good for vitamin D which helps bones -- you also get
Vitamin D from sunlight

Have you tried Unjury unflavored protein powder? You can purchase this at
unjury.com, and it is fantastic. I usually take a bottle of powerade zero,
or a bottle of water mixed with one of the Crystal Light packets, add in
the unjury unflavored, and it's fantastic from there. Otherwise the EAS
protein shakes are pre-made and they are pretty tasty. Good luck!

I use non-fat/skim milk to make my protein drinks and have been successful
at weight loss. Go for it!

Hey Nevalle,
Milk has a lot of carbs, not sure how much sugar. Have you tried
substituting an Atkins shake or soy milk?
How many weeks post op are you? Do you need to still be drinking them
because of your protein needs or are you not able to get solid food down
yet?
