Question:
I had the gastric stapling procedure in 1984, and due to various reasons, I ruined it
Back then, my support system fell into pieces as a result of family issues, and over the months leading to yrs, I over ate and ruined my operation. Now, I'm hoping to have a revision, and hopefully RNY. I've dealt with my problems and psychologically healed the issues. Has anyone here had a revision? — azureblue54 (posted on July 24, 2008)

It wasnt your fault, the surgery of that era wasnt very good and failure
was common:( My surgeon specializes in revisions, you may have to shop for
a surgeon willing to take on the more challenging cases. our support group
had many revisions that did fantastic.

I also had my stomach stapled, back in 1995. I went from 370 to 239, then
gained back weight and went back up as high as 312. Stomach stapling is an
outdated, ineffective procedure. I had a Revision to Roux-en-Y Gastric
Bypass this year, on 02/01/2008. RNY Gastric Bypass is far superior to
stomach stapling. Stomach stapling restricted how much I could eat to some
degree, but still allowed me to eat a lot of sugary sweets like Pepsi and
ice cream and chocolate. Gastric Bypass stops the vast majority of patients
from eating sugary foods by making them feel sick if they try to.... Plus
Gastric Bypass restricts the amount of food eaten, and causes the body to
not completely absorb all of the fat and calories eaten, plus, decreases
the amount of a hunger-causing hormone called Ghrelin. Gastric Bypass also
cures Type 2 diabetes in over 90% of people, many within a few days or
weeks of having surgery, due to the modifications made to the small
intestine during surgery, which causes Diabetes to reverse itself. Since I
had my revision 6 months ago, I have lost 73 pounds and am still losing at
a steady rate each week. I highly recmmend the Revision to RNY.
