Question:
Today is my 7 year anniversary:)

Its truly hard to believe that time has gone by so fast! WLS was truly the best choice I ever made in my entire life!!! I am doing well, have regained a little, no doubt because of chocolate:( but am way healthier ands happier than pre op:) For those considering surgery YOU CAN DO IT TOO! My biggest disappointment is that our support group disengrated after our surgeon Dr Philip Schauer left pittsburgh for cleveland. What a awesome and wonderful surgeon and person! But I truly miss my support group buddies.. They became my second family and are missed. Anyhow best wishes to everyone, bob still a big looser:)    — bob-haller (posted on July 24, 2008)

Congrats on your anniversary. I am one year out and have lost 140 pounds. I too, feel this is the best decision I have ever made. Go out and treat yourself to a movie or something. You deserve it. Marian

Congratulations and happy anniversary Bob. I had my surgery there with Dr. Samer Mattar and I miss both Dr. Mattar and Dr. Schauer. I, too, miss our support group. Have you talked to anyone at any of the UPMC facilities about beginning another group? I haven't been to any of my follow up appointment lately since I hadn't had insurance coverage for a few years. I'd love to be able to go to support group meetings again. If you do get something started, please be sure to let me know. Keep up the great work. Best wishes for health and happiness!

The original support group disengrated after Schuers departure. What had average attendence of 100 to 200 dwindled to the last meeting ever, which consisted of 5 people including the nutronist. I was told they were starting a new group for all UPMC bariaric patients. Last I heard it was a newbies group, missing my fiends the long termers. Dr schauers magnetic personality must of been the goo that kept the group together. The last I saw of some of these folks was at a uneral for Beth Klem one of schauers nurses. For ME tht support group had become a family.

You and the wife look great in your photos...Good to hear you are doing well! Support is a wonderful thing...I stay focused right here on OH, reading the boards and posting with my WLS Grads...The bonds we have with eachother as former MO people is something that can't be duplicated with non-wls people and people who have never been morbidly obese...and the support we give eachother can be gotten no place else but with eachother...Our experiences are ours alone...and most of us understand better than any of our surgeons, doctors and nurses, unless they too were obese and had wlsurgery. We are always one or two steps ahead of them...We have more patience with each other too...So I hope you find yourself another support system...and stay on top of everything (diet, medical, vitamin, and health...) so your long term continues to stay nice and LONG! I'm sure after 7 years...you have a lot to offer new post ops too! Congrats!

I had open RNY on August 22, 2006, and I started out at 526 lbs pre-op. I currantly weigh 229 lbs. I totally agree with you, this was the best thing that I could have done for myself. I can eat just about anything, as long as it is little tiny portions. I used to crave cheeseburgers, now I maybe take 2 bites and I am full. I don't do bread anymore I have twins boy/girl who are 2 yrs, 3 months old. They eat more than I do. Peggy
