Question:
Is 2 pounds a week weight loss good?

I had my surgery (Revisional RNY) 02/01/2008 and my body seems to have settled in to a routine of a 2 pound weight loss per week. This is adding up of course, and I am thrilled to be losing weight, but am wondering how this compares to other people's weight loss? Thanks in advance for your input/ opinions!    — Gina S. Hey..you can't really turn your nose up at 8 lbs a month! That's not too shabby at all. Losing weight a little slowly gives your skin and body time to catch up and it's not as harsh as losing too fast. After the first few month of RNY...most people slow to 8 lbs a month anyway! You are doing great! Good luck with your continued success! You'll get there! :)

Quick question, why did you need a revision? I also need one but it it excluded on my insurance plan. Did you have any difficulty with your insurance? I am trying to find a way to appeal...Can anyone offer help? Tammy

I was told that 2 pounds was perfect, and health. Just stick with it and good luck.

I guess it depends on the person and what they are eating. I lost an average of 20LBS a month for the first 6-8 months after my surgery

I also have lost about 2 pounds a week right from the beginning. 11 months later I have taken off 138 pounds. Best of luck to you.

Gina, I have seen where initially WLS patients will have a rapid weight loss and then as you say "settle" into a routine of between 1.5-2# per week. There are a lot of variables, but that seems to be about the average. Remember, slow and steady weight loss like yours tend to be long term weight loss- you are more likely to keep it off. Doing great, keep up the good work. Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

I had a RNY revision on December of 2006 for a stomach stapling done about 18 years ago. Total that I have lost is about only about 71 lbs ( Iam gulity of eating too many carbs and slider foods) BUT I went from a size 20 to a size 4-6. Never exercised and that's not good would have been much more if I had but am planning to now as I am gaining weight 15 libs since September. I was told by my doctor that we would lose much slower because our pouches have already been stretched once. This makes sense to me as once a balloon is blown up and deflated it's much easier to blow up the second time. Our balloon (pouch) has been stretched that's why we needed a revision. Eat correctly, excercise and don't cheat your self out of a second chance. We can do it!

2 pounds a week is good. That is about what I lost my first few weeks. Kept hitting platues during the week where I would got up a couple of pounds but days later I would finally loose another couple of pounds. Now I am 8 weeks out and have been exercising alot this last week or so. I do 30 minutes on the treadmill (1.5 miles) and then do weight lifting then about 10 - 15 minutes in the sauna. This has really helped me kick start the weight loss. I have lost 8 pounds this week. Really sore, but glad to see that scale moving!!

Gina any weight loss is good. Count your blessings girl! I lost approximately 1-2 pounds every week for a year. No big weight loss weeks, except a few in the beginning. It was oh so slow and steady, and 4 years later, I am still the same size, Praise God! Celebrate every pound, and be thankful that you are still losing. Be sure to keep up your water, exercise and diet so that it will continue. Patricia P.

I had my surgery 9 years ago and wished they still did the one I had done, but they don't. They stopped the kind I had done in 1999. I was losing 12 and a half pounds a week when I first had it done. I had lost a substantial amount of weight the first 6 months then started slowing down to about 2 pounds a week. Keep your chin up the new surgeries they are doing you lose slower and that is better. I had gotten very sick with mine and came across several medical problems along the way. I paid dearly with my surgery and went through hell. Good luck to you and I hope you succeed in what your goal is.
