From what I heard from support groups, only Medicare is covering and that
is at selected hospitals. You might want to go to a Surgeons lecture at a
hospital near you and see if they can give you more information, as this is
a very special case. There are companines that will issue medical loans
for WLS.

Hi,
I dont know where it is you live, but in Florida plain Medicaid does not
cover WLS. You have to have Staywell- type Medicaid. If you are able to
qualify for Medicaid you need to check all the different companies you may
pick from. I started my 12 months of Dr. visits for trying to loose
weight. Then with my ins right I was able to look for a DR. that took
Staywell and then scheduled my first visit with the surgeon and started to
have ALL the pre requests done. I now have only to see the nutritionist!
There is alot to do in order to get the surg...BUT I am sure it will be
worth it in the long run. Please attend several different WLS Support
Group meetings till you find the one that fits your needs. I will keep you
in my prayers. Julie

In Michigan you have to be on MEdicaid for one year & then it changes
to Medicare adn they do cover it. You need to go to your family
independence agency in your area and apply for medicaid.

In Cali, you have to go to the social service office. You have to provide
original Birth Certificate, financial info - household income & proof
of dependents. (I work at a Dr. office (OB-Gyn) & we refer many, many
patients.)

Folks posting are correct. Go to your local Food Stamp office, apply for as
many services as U can. If U are considered disabled also bring that proof
with you. Bring proof of your address such as your lease, driver lic.,
birth certif, SSN card, all utility bills, any medical bills you have and
are not paid, the title to your car if U have one, current bank statements,
if U have IRA's, stocks bonds, life insurance, here in NJ you have to spend
that do before the gov. will approve your app. I know it sounds extreme but
from their point of view (here in NJ) they want U to use up all means of
supporting yourself before the gov. will support you in any way. and yes in
NJ WLS is covered. We have HMO's for the most part here. Good luck.
