Question:
How long do you have to wait?
I wanted to know how long before I can start thinking about having a Breast Augmentation. I am currently almost 6 months out and have lost almost all of my breast and would like to get them "fixed". What is the time frame I need to wait before I can start considering this? — nicole30 (posted on April 8, 2008)

you need to weight until you've lost all your weight and it has been
stabilized for awhile...also that you're feeling well and you should get
the clearance from your doctor.

My support group had a plastic surgeon whose specialty is WLS patients. He
said to wait until you ar 15 months post op or have had at least 3 months
of a stable weight. My surgeon told us to wait 2 years post op before
considering plastic surgery. Do it too soon while still losing weight, and
you probably will not be happy with the way they look when your weight has
stabilized.

I just had some cosmetic surgery done. I was 15 mos out when I had it done
(January) I am passed my goal weight and been stable for at least the 3
mos before I had this surgery ( I had my arms done and all around my waist)
Dr removed about 8 -9 lbs of flab. I comfortably fit into a size 4 now.
Prior to surgery I was in a 6 - 8 pants. Now, prior to gastric bypass I
was in a pants size 22... Take your time don't rush yourself. Make sure
you are at your goal weight because if you're not and you do this you will
end up losing more weight and will end up with the same problem as you have
now. I know its not pleasant but "good things come to those who
waite" Best of Luck

I just had my 6 mos. post-op and my surgeon said usually 12-18 months, if
your weight is stabalized and you're close to your goal. However, he did
set me up with an appt. with the plastic surgeon as he stated they would
want photo's to start documenting for insurance, for something such as a
tummy tuck, that sometimes is covered by insurance. He also said that so
many plastic surgeons are so booked that it's best to make the appt.
now....and I did... and the surgeon was booked until July 24th....that's
the earliest. So you may want to get in now....to get the consult....then
go from there. Best wishes and congrats on the weight loss!
Hugs....Cheryl

Nicole, patience is the name of the game here. I really encourage you to
wait for 18 months to 2 years before getting any plastic surgery. Exercise
like crazy, tone those muscles and lose all the weight possible for you
during that time, so when the time comes to address your breasts and
possibly other areas, you will be fit and in the best health possible. If
you do it now, then lose another 50 to 150 pounds, you will not be happy
with the results 2 years down the road, I promise you that. Be patient,
work hard, and it will pay off for you in the end. Patricia P.

thanks for asking this question..i am a little over 6mo, have lost 74lbs,
and am starting to think about plastic surgery- i am definantly gonna get
my boobs done because i have hardly nothing left. i have never had big
breasts, but have gone from a C to barely a B. i also want my inner thighs
done and then maybe after i have children a tummy tuck. i have heard people
say to wait anywhere from 1-2 years depending on your wt loss. when i go to
my surgeon next week for my checkup i am gonna ask him what he suggests as
far as good guidelines. good luck and keep me posted- Holly
