I am currenlty 4 wks post op rny, and I am getting so disgusted, my sinus is draining so bad, that i am not able to really eat much of anything, and sometime when I do I vomit mostly mucus. I live in Ga where the pollen is really high some days I get so discourage that maybe this was not the best thing, I want to eat the right things but feel so nausea I have lost 32 lbs, and just feeling like will this feeling ever end. Will i be able to eat the things that I know I can eat Just feeling bad need encouragement. Charntia — cbraxton (posted on April 6, 2008)

I was EXACTLY where you are today, when I was 4 wks post - and I'll tell ya
- it is the depression setting in because your body is undergoing changes
by the hour!
It will pass. Heck, I grabbed a piece of sausage and chewed it, and spit it
out, just because I wanted to taste and chew something!!!!
This passes, and you will feel better, one day at a time, ok?
BTW - to date, I've lost 125lbs. It does work.

You mention pollen and your nose is running. Allergies? If that's the case
check with your surgeon to see what is safe to take for allergies. You
need to get some kind of appetitite to start eating. Check with your
surgeon to see if he can prescribe or recommend something OTC for nausea
too.

Charntia: I found that I was fairly nauseous for the first several weeks,
but it really, really did pass. If I had had WLS at this time of year, it
would have been more ugly, since my allergies are awful right now. Yes,
talk to your doctor about anti-nausea meds and some sort of anti-histamine.
The prescription antihistamines really are better and your doctor can gear
it toward your health to make sure they don't interact badly with other
meds or get metabolized in the right place for you. It willl pass! You will
get through this!

You're just going through a rough patch right now. You'll feel 100% better
in a few more weeks. I know that seems like an eternity...but truthfully,
I felt great the first week...then it was downhill for about 5 weeks...then
I started feeling awesome. For now...I'd stay with simple foods....like
your soups and more creamy things...only trying more difficult foods as you
feel you can. It just takes more time for some people than others. I
struggled for a long while....wondering if I'd ever get a variety in my
diet. Now..at nearly 6 months...I can eat a wide variety, but still have
trouble with breads..which is a good thing. I don't want to be able to eat
too many carbs.
I too battled sinus a lot this winter season. I had the same trouble with
nausea and when I vomitted it would be the mucus thing. This was a record
year for colds and sinus and chest congestion in our state.. we're terribly
cold in MN, but I have heard from many that every state has had below
average temps....so this too shall pass.... just be patient...and keep
getting your fluids....as that will help flush this junk out. Exercise
will help move things through too. I found walking really kept my chest
congestion at bay...and helped me clear viruses out quicker. Consult with
your doc about allergy meds perhaps.....and.....do a sinus rinse... those
helped me a lot...and I also used Afrin when I was really congested..but
only used it for 3 days...as you don't want to get dependent. I'm
rambling...but wanted you to know... you did make the right decision about
surgery... 32 pounds is awesome! You're just feeling down because you're
struggling with losing your friend.. "food" and also with the
fact that you're not able to eat the way you desire. It will get
better...I promise. If you need a shoulder to cry on.... send me a note.
Hugs and best wishes.....Cheryl

My sergon had us take a lot of classes and one that was two hours was on
the worst that could happen in which they told us all the side effects they
had on file, including the one you are experencing. They told us that
nearly everyone gets something, and 10% would experence three or more of
the issues. I got depressed and I to lost 30 lbs in the first thirty days.
Then my wife told me that when had I ever lost 30 pounds in 30 days. I
call the doctor and they determined that I was depressed from weight loss
and that the sicking I was feeling was more in my head. They put me on
lexapro and the depression and head issue when away, and I felt good by
week 7. I wanted to try something that I could chew and the sergeon,
suggest that I grill a steak for my wife and I just chew on a piece of it
and when it was dry spit it out. I did and it worked. Today, I would do
it all over agoan. in less than 4 months I am down nearly 80 lbs. I feel
great, go to the gym every day for 1 to 1-1/2 hours and never had this much
engery. Best of success to you. You will make it.

Hi Charnita, I have the same problem as you sometimes. You can thin the
mucus by drinking warm fluid, let it pass and then try and eat. Sometimes
I just had to throw up the flem and then go eat my meal. Gross, but it
worked. It is problem with allergy season. The good news for me though is
that I don't have any allergies now that I am past losing all my weight.
For the most part of 3 years I have had no allergy problems, and I think it
was because I lost the weight. I am 4 years post op. Take care. Patricia

To get through my weeks of a head cold, and lots of post-nasal drip, which
caused lots of vomiting after eating, I sipped warm beef broth-- I found
the warm liquid helped dissipate the mucus and got some benefit from the
small amount of protein in it. Also, I forced myself to choke down the
clear protein drinks, because I didn't want my body to stop losing by going
into starvation mode.

I am on my 6th week post op and got a really bad head cold. It was a cold
not allergies. I asked my pharmacy what was safe to take and the
pharmacist told me to take Tylenol Sinus and then my doctor's office said
anything over the counter was okay too. I would stick to the Tylenol based
items though because of your new tummy and the liquids in it. Hope this
helps.

Charntia, You are not alone, I had the nausea & dry heaves for 5 weeks
but my Doc ordered me Zofran and it was a life saver. This too will end
and you will not even remember it! Good Luck! Lori in Michigan

I am 4 weeks post op too and have the feeling of constant draining from my
sinuses. I have also been vomiting too. My surgeon sent me to see an ENT
today. The ENT said I have acid reflux. Some of the common signs are
excess mucus, vomiting, feeling like something stuck in your throat, etc.
I always thought acid reflux was like heartburn and acid taste. The ENT
said many people with reflux do not suffer from the heartburn and have no
clue they have acid reflux. Anyways, he said to double up on my Protonix
(acid inhibitor) and take tums at night. I hope it helps because it is
awful dealing with it! I have also had lots of gagging due to uvula being
irritated by acids. You might want to make sure you don't have this.
