Question:
At 550lbs, I was told I was too heavy for the operating table to support me.
I live and would need a surgeon in the Northern NJ area. Please if anyone knows of one, let me know! Thank you! — MRHINESMITH1 (posted on January 10, 2008)

I also used Dr. Ward as did friends at work and everyone of us is healthy
and happy with Dr. Ward. I would definetly give him a call and see what he
says.

Your Doctor is just afraid of your weight and the complications you might
have. Find a more experenced doctor, or look at NYC as they take on a lot
of persons heaver that you.

Hi- I second that- you should go to NYC for sure- its worth the
inconvenience. Have you researched the DS? There is a DS forum here on OH
and you can also check out DuodenalSwitch.com

I had my lap band surgery at NYU in Manhattan with Dr. Christine Ren. I
had a fabulous experience with her and would recommend her highly. I am
pretty sure they have done surgery on people with higher weights that
yours. Good luck and feel free to contact me about Dr. Ren anytime.

Try an internet search for "bariatric center of excellence" in
your area. Hospitals covet this rating because it approves them the accept
Medicare & Medicaid patient seeking WLS. One of the "musts"
to be certified is appropriate equipment for XL patients such as toilets,
beds, and surgical equipment. Best of luck to you!

there are people who weigh much more than 550 lb. who are put on operating
tables that are adequate to support them. Please -- GIVE ME A BREAK!! I
believe the surgeon who told you this probably does not feel "up to
the task". I do not live anywhere near New Jersey so I have nobody to
refer you to. Keep looking though. You need a surgeon who has a POSITIVE
attitude and is not looking for lame excuses to get rid of you.

hi there
throw your question onto the jersey board and see what docs people there
have used -- we are in south jersey and used Matt Kirkland over at Penn
Hosp in Philly 00 215-829-3697 -- there are many fine docs in north jersey
too -- good luck finding a new surgeon --you are NOT too heavy for the
operating table -- would he have said the same thing if you were just
having a gallbladder out??? makes me wonder -- Roberta

I don't know where in Jersey he is, but Dr. David Greenbaum does the
surgery and he does the DS, which you should check out for your high BMI.
Check out duodenalswitch.com and the DS forum here on OH. Good luck.
