Hello, I originally had gastric bypass surgery in March on 2001. I weighed 315lbs. I did well at first but it didnt last. I got down to 215lbs and started gaining after that. I went to the doctors because of some intestinal problems i was having and he (Dr. Colella) decided that i should have a complete revision done. I was 260lbs and I am now down to 195lbs. It has been 7mos. since my revision and I am doing well now. If you need a revision because of a medical problem, then I think you should have it but if you just want a revision and there isnt anything wrong then Im not sure if you will find a doctor who would be willing to do it. Feel free to email me with any further questions you might have.

It sounds like you need to address the issue of thinking of yourself as fat and what goes along with it.

Gastric revision? Why? Does it quit working? Does everyone have it done over again? Does maintenance not over after a while.

Hello Amy, I'm having a revision done on Friday (the 31st). In order for them to covered you should have very good reason to do so but that does NOT guarantee that your Insurance will honor it anyway. You should ask your surgeon to have an UGI with Small Bowel Follow-Thru barium study. That way, you'll know EXACTLY what's going on with your bypass and your pouch. When they did mine, they found 1) hiatal hernia, 2) GERD and 3) slow-transit. The pouch had also doubled in size. So in light of this, I'm having my revision to correct all those problems. I will tell you, the mortality rate and complications are much higher than original bypass. Scar tissue heals very slow. Hope this helps you, God Bless.

Amy, I am a little confused if you are talking about a reversal or a revision. If it is a reversal, I am curious why, as you are doing so great, having lost 210 lbs! That is wonderful! If it is a revision you are talking about, then your insurance might cover it, depending on many things that I am not even sure of. A revision in some cases have to be done. My mother-in-law had to have a revision to correct a leak, and she fought with her insurance for quite awhile, but they ended up covering it. I hope all goes well with you. Good luck! Stephanie

I wasn't clear if you want reversal or change (revision). And are your reasons physical or mental/emotional? And the other question is if you mean reversal, to put things back, will you feel better with your 210 + friends back on?

I am not sure I understand. I too am going for a revision. I started out at 412 & only lost 60 lbs n 6 months! My BMI is still at almost 47! Yours is UNDER 30! you are fine. I dont understand why you still feel fat (But I have never lost that kind of weight either!) Maybe you should see a shrink. Mine specializes in Surgery Patients & I have been seing her for 3 years so she really knows me. If your bmi is that low (as your profile shows) I think you are at a healthy weight. Good Luck!
