Melissa: It will get better!! I am 7 weeks out, (been there, felt that way!!) keep on taking protein!!! and drink lots of water!! and walk as much as you can.. although it sounds like it will wear you out my doctor says it does just the opposite, the more you can walk, the more energy you will get!! Good luck, April

Hi, I am 9 weeks out now and when I was about 1-2 weeks I was soo weak I could not even take a shower by myself or stand for more than 5 minutes. Wich made it very hard to take care of my 1 and 8 year old. But don't worry it doesn't last for long.

I had my surgery on November 15, 2005 and I still don't have energy, but I had to go back to work after 4 weeks, but I am only working 4 hours a day and then coming home to take a nap. I heard that it will wear off and you will get your energy back, but it will take a while.

I promise it gets better. I am now 9 months out. Just don't push too hard. Stay away from thick protein drinks and stick with thinner mixes and sip, sip, sip.

It will be three weeks Thursday and I am starting to feel like myself again, other than being totally wiped out after an hour or two of shopping, so don't worry. It gets better. As you heal and begin eating more, the energy comes back. I have been told to expect to feel almost 100% by week six or seven.

I am 3 months out and have less energy than I did post op. My labs were great this month, but I am sleeping 10 to 14 hours a day. I try to go to the gym, sometimes I get there and just turn around and drive back home. If I do work out with weights it is half-hearted. I get on my elliptical machine no more than twice a week. I work full time but my job is mostly sitting, and sometimes I even get some sleep. (I work at night as a physician) I am glad to hear someone else with no energy. I lost 50lbs by 2 months, and none since. Yes, I am eating my ding-dang protein, choking down bars and drinks. I hate all food now, and even when hungry can't eat much, which of course was the goal. I must be eating enough since weight loss has stopped for the last month, but then I don/t expend enough calories. Eating more does not add energy. I am disgusted and frustrate. I suppose I am not a kid anymore at 47, but I was a moderatley active 47, lifting weights and elliptical walking 3days/3days before surgery at 310 lbs. My advice for most patients would be that it takes about 6 months to fully recover from open RNY, nevertheless I am spitting pickles I am so angry with myself. I have become a lump in the last month and other than putting up the Christmas tree, have been useless at home. I did point out to my wife that if I am sleeping I am not making any mess to clean up. She is not impressed. Any recommendations outhere for us two but draggers?

You just had major surgery and your body is still full of anesthesia. Did you really expect to have lots of energy right now? Your body just underwent a major trauma and it's trying to conserve energy, rest and heal!

Im also around 7ish weeks out (surg on 10/24). Some days I have "enough" energy but some days I feel like someone has drained the life right outta me. I also have a 15 month old that is running all over the place :) If t wasnt for the fact of having to keep up with him I would get LOTS more sleep. Im also having trouble getting all of my protein & water in.....Im always busy with him so I do my main drinking in my vehicle to & from work and at work. Im a police dispatcher though so if we get busy I dont get much fluids at work either..ditto with eating..sometimes I dont get much of a chance to eat since it is not as easy as it was to just order a pizza or grab something quick & bad for me to eat at work. I hope our energy gets better...I think as the weight comes off it will get better from that also :) Even if I feel drained energy wise...my self confidence is going up up up already :) Tryna
