Question:
IS GATORADE/POWERADE A GOOD SOURCE FOR LIQUIDS INSTEAD OF WATER?

My surgeon told me to use GatorAde during the first couple of weeks post-op to be sure I was getting the electrolytes I needed. I used it for a couple of weeks but since it had 13g sugar per serving, I stopped using it when I started on solid food and when I was able to take my vitamins. I don't know if Gatorade makes a sugar free version since I don't really like it well enough to investigate. I'd suggest checking with your doctor to see what he/she recommends.

I am not sure that it is the best for you, but have you ever tried Propel Fitness Water. It is made by the same people that make Gatordae. It tastes pretty good. It's non carbonated and only 2 grams of sugar, 10 calories,35g sodium and 3 carbs. Comes in grape, lemon, peach, and strawberry kiwi flavors.(I think there is one othe flavor that I didnt mention.) I found it at Walgreens and Walmart. Walmart carries a 33oz for .98 each

I just did a report on Gatorade's Marketing strategies for my Stretgic Marketing class and learned alot about the product. It has scientific research to back-up it's claims and its formula is the perfect blend of salt and sugars to restore a body during an intense work-out. THis may be why it does not taste as good as Powerade, which is not a bad product, but has tried to copy Gatorade's formula without any scientific study, and taking flavor inot greater consideration than nutritional benefit. That being said....my unprofessional opinion is "no". These products are not a suitable substitue for water on a long term basis. I would only consume these products during and after an extreme workout or while participating in a sporting event or anything else that would cause you to sweat.

I have just looked at the sugar content on these drinks. I tend to stay away from stuff with more than 10 grams of sugar and I think that has a lot. I have never dumped from eating too much sugar and I do not try things I know have too much sugar. Just my opinion.

Hi Patrice, There's lots of sugar (and therefore calories) in the Gatorade types of drinks. Unless your doctor has told you that you need the electrolytes, I would stay away from it. I just finished walking/running a marathon on Sunday and used Gatorade during training and during the marathon itself. When you're doing that amount of excercise it's good to replace the electrolytes and get something besides water. Otherwise, you should probably stick to the low-sugar, low-calorie drinks and save the calories for your food.

Gatorade and Powerade are very high in sugars...There are other water alternatives you can drink like Propel (only 10 cals.3 gms of cars and 2 gms of sugar)......or there is a drink called Fruit2o that is excellent too. I'd really try and stay away for the real sugary drinks.....if not because of the extra cals......but for the chance you take that all this sugar will make you dump

I made the decision pre op to stick to mostly zero calorie liquids, water, sugar free koolaid etc. look liquid calories NEVER fill anyone up, they are just a waste. I have stuck with this pretty good and figure if I am going to eat something bad I will FIRST eat something good, like protein, then eat something caloric junk like a hostess snowball. At least its somewhat filling. Sugar goes directly to extra pounds on me. So it might as well be filling and the best tasting as possible. I am 3 years out next month. Early on you can eat anything and loose or maintain:) Later on most fight regain:( Good choices at the beginning equal easier time later. Besides high sugar foods early on desentize us to sugar less dumping and more cravings:(:(:(
