Question:
AT 2 WEEKS POST-OP I AM DOWN 21 POUNDS. HOWEVER, I THINK I EAT TOO MUCH.
I CAN EAT ABOUT 6 TO 8 SPOONS OF MASH POTATOES, YOGURT, ETC AND I DO NOT FILL FULL ALL THE TIME. I JUST STOP MYSELF FROM EATING ANY MORE. THEN, SOMEDAYS I NEVER FILL HUNGRY AND HAVE LIQUIDS ALL DAY. IS THIS NORMAL? IF NOT, WHAT SHOULD I DO? — PATRICE T. (posted on May 26, 2004)

It is very important that you eat and measure your food in the amounts your
Dr. told you too. The pouch is healing and it will take about 4-6 weeks
before it can single that you are truly full. As far is feeling full this
is normal as your pouch heals and adjusts. So get in your protein and water
and eat in the proper amounts and you will be fine.

Agreeing with the other poster...but to put it more simply... You're NOT
supposed to feel full yet. Your pouch has not regained normal sensation
and it's still healing. What you need to do is measure out the apropriate
amount of food and eat ONLY that. (if you can't eat it all, it's OK too)
It's not OK to be drinking liquids only just because you're not hungry, if
you're in the soft food stage or, in fact, any food stage past liquids.
Again, you should follow your surgeons orders. There is a reason for the
stages of foods. This is a time of transition and learning. You'll be
fine, I'm sure. Just stick to your dr's program to the letter!

I am two weeks post op as well, and strangely, I too have lost 21 lbs!
I've had a really fast recovery, and the first week or so, when I was on
full liquids, I had a problem with not getting full, but now I get full
pretty fast. I however have a problem with eating too fast. Today I made
eggsalad (I made it with veganaise instead of mayo, so the soy-protein
probably didnt help), and it was the first time I've had a problem. I got
really sick, and felt like I was dying. My esophogus started spasming, and
I kept throwing up froth. It was because I ate too much, and I just didnt
feel it yet. So be careful of that!

you will be able to eat more of soft foods like yogurt, or mash potatoes,
once you switch to more dense foods (chicken, tuna, etc) you will fill up
much faster.
