Question:
ANYONE HAD THEIR GALLBLADER REMOVED AT THE SAME TIME AS WLS?
I WILL HAVE OPEN RNY WITH A GALLBLADDER REMOVAL ON MAY 11TH. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE WEIGHT LOSS PROCESS IS LIKE FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS. I KNOW EVERYONE'S WEIGHT LOSS IS NOT THE SAME BUT I JUST WANT SOME FIGURES. I AM 5 FT 5 IN AND WEIGHT 309 LBS. — PATRICE T. (posted on April 2, 2004)

I had lap RNY 10/15/02 with my gallbladder removed at the same time. My
starting stats are close to yours - 5'3", 316 pounds. So far I've
lost 132 pounds and fit into 14 / L top and 14/16 pants. I am looking into
a tummy tuck. I have a pretty detailed profile if you want to check it out.
It's so great to get your gall bladder out at the same time. So many of my
friends have problems with it and attacks are PAINFUL from what they tell
me. I not sure that my weight loss process was any different from anyone
else's though by getting my gall bladder out at the same time. I didn't
have any different instructions than anyone else. Good luck to you!

I had open RNY with gallbladder removal on 2/24/04. I'm 5-5 and 301 pre-op.
Six weeks later I'm down 46 pounds and feel great. I have been told to
watch any high fat foods and dairy products. Let's just say they don't say
around long. My prayers are with you for a speedy recovery, and a great new
life.

I am 1 year post op lap rny. I had my Gall bladder removed at the same time
due to having stones. I began my journey at 327 and 1 year post op at 169.
Good Luck to you and may God Bless you as he has me. email me at
[email protected] if you have any questions I may be of help with. Good
Luck remember positive thoughts bring positive results. And stay on track
this is only a tool. We still have to work at it. As I am sure you have
already been told. God Bless you as you enter your journey to the Loosing
Side. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. My only regret is
that I wait this long. Life is great now.

I had Lap RNY on 6/16/03 -- My starting stats were 5-5" and 336
pounds. Since I already had "stones" (although I was not
symptomatic), I talked the Dr into removing my gall bladder at the same
time -- one extra "hole" is all. I don't think it made any
difference in my recovery time at all. I am down 137 pounds in 9 months!

Patrice,
I had open RNY with gallbladder removal on 11/29/01 and in the first six
months, I lost 120 pounds. I started out at 346 and I am 5'5" tall.
I ultimately lost a total of 181 pounds and bounce back and forth between
165 and 170. It took me a little over a year to reach the 181 mark and
that was after my tummy tuck.

Lap RNY w/ GB removal 08/03. 5'5" started at 244 now 164 in just over
7 months. I had a BIG stone, and previous GB attacks. Only thing I notice
is I can't eat anything deep-fried (which is a GOOD thing!). Boy, I tried
once and it came back up so fast it was amazing, and left me nauseous for
several hours. Everything else is fine, I can eat limited amounts of just
about everything else. I'm happy with my slow and steady weight loss,
doesn't look like I'll need any PS unless I want perkier boobs!

I had my gallbadder taken out the same time as my WLS since alot of people
have problems afterwards, I figured why not take it out the same time. IF
it affected my weight loss I didnt notice I was 329 and 5 6 and lost 150
pounds.

I'm 5'6 and weighed 305 before surgery. I had open RNY with gall bladder
removal. I'm 10 days out of surgery and down 17 lbs. I don't know if the
gallbladder has anything to do with losing faster or slower. Best of luck
to you!

I had surgery RNY on 2/10 , I'm 5'6" weighed 304 , as of today almost
8 weeks preop I've lost 60 pounds. They also took out my gallbladder
because I had some stones and it was pretty common, they also did a full
hysterectomy on me because of a basketball size tumor/cyst found in my
abdomin. I got many procedures all at once and still recovering but just
going through the stomach surgery saved my life because I had know idea
about the huge tumor/cyst growing inside me. You'll do fine, don't worry
about the gallbladder, I've heard that its quite common to remove with
stomach surgery. Good luck!!

Hi Patrice (that's my middle name!). I had my open RNY on 5/23/03, with
gallbladder removal (I had stones). I started at almost 240 and am now
below goal at 120 after less than 10 months. You should do well - just
stay on your surgeon's program. Good luck to you!

I had open RNY with my gallbladder removed on 5/7/03. So far I've lost 188
lbs, no bad effects that I can tell!! I did have a lot of pain but I don't
know if it was worse because of the gallbladder removal or just because I'm
wimpy :)

I had GB taken out same time as surgery , it wasnt planned the doc just
said it looked bad so he took it out, I did know it was possible. I am 16
months out and have lost 160 lbs I started at 310, and I am at 150 now ! I
am 5'11" so I am happy with that ! I feel great had no pain no
complications was home in 3 days and back to work in 7 and at the gym by 10
