When I had my surgery thru NeWeigh they were still using Bellaire. There I found that I did not have a lot of the problems that other people faced who were at facilities unfamiliar with bariatric surgery. They knew to give me a sugar free diet, I only had to drink a couple of sips of barium, and they performed the test standing. I had a big enough gown and was hounded by the respirometer nazi every couple of hours day and night. The little general in the ICU demanded that I get up and walk and walk and walk. They knew what to do for that type of surgery. I would think that as many surgeries go thru NeWeigh, it should be the same at Vista.

Had my RNY 4/30/02 at Vista. Only had one bad experience there. Was my first 24hrs post-op and was in ICU. Was on a morphine PCA pump and my oxygen saturation dropped down in the 80's, I was not breathing deeply enough or fast enough. (Morphine depresses your respirations). Luckily, a good friend was staying with me and woke me, also notified the nurses who were ignoring the alarm on the monitor. Otherwise, it was a positive experience. Once out of ICU, the nurses would make me walk every 2hrs, day and night! The respiratory techs would bug me every 2 hrs also. Overall, I would recommend the hospital...perhaps the ICU nurse had looked away from the monitor for a short time...lol

Vista mainly does only bariatric and back surgeries. I am having surgery on the 31st of this month and have complete confidence in the facility. My friend had surgery last Wed., 17th, and stayed in ICU over 24 hrs. because they ran out rooms. Her husband was quite satisfied since they allowed him to spend the night and she got one on one nursing in ICU. She still had to walk and do breathing exercises. Maybe you should be more specific about your concerns, fears, etc. You can also check this site for reviews of the hospital. Hope this helps.
