Question:
Iam 4 weeks out and haven't lost any for 2 WHOLE weeks is it normal to plateau so ear
ly ? I am VERY discouraged because I am eating so little and walking everyday. — PAULA B. (posted on June 24, 2002)

Yes, it is normal and there's not much you can do about it. The best thing
to do is make sure you take all your vitamins, drink plenty of water and
get in the protein. I know it's almost impossible at 4 weeks but give it
your best shot. I am 4 months post op, -71lbs. At four months I find I
wil lose in spurts. It's not like a pound or two everyday. I know this
might sound impossible but I lost nearly 9lbs overnight, no joke! Everyone
is different. Just don't stess about it, the weight will come off. Good
Luck.

Hi...hang in there! Weeks 5 and 6 post-op for me were plateau weeks. Then
last week, week 7, the scale dropped 3.5 lbs. I'm a slow loser because I'm
awaiting my upper GI series for possible stricture. And in the meantime
I'm not getting my water in...it comes back up about 50% of the time. And
also I'm not getting a lot of exercise because I feel dehydrated.
Currently fighting with Kaiser to get my upper GI done earlier than the
appt they gave me...JULY 9th! Here I am suffering, and they put me off for
3 weeks. But, back to the subject at hand...yes, plateauing this early is
normal. Soon you'll see that scale really drop again. Hugs, Joy

I do the "spurt" thing too. I am 5 weeks out tomorrow!~ I seem to
lose like 3 or 4 pounds on monday night while I sleep. I am NOT kidding.
lol I think, from what I have read is those blasted plateaus can happen at
any time any place and are the most Unwanted part of the surgery! Hang in
there it will happen. Good Luck!~

I hit my first plateau at 3 weeks post-op. It lasted probably about 2 1/2
weeks. It was so frustrating. Sometimes I think I am on a plateau longer
than not. (does that make sense?) Anyways, I am now 8 months post op and
only 9 pounds away from my goal. I am 5'7 and currently at 144. My goal
is 135. I also just had my tummy tuck consult and it is scheduled for
Sept. Cant wait. Dont worry, we all plateau!! It stinks, but that is the
way it goes. Hang in there, you will do just fine. Good Luck!!

Yes, this is VERY normal, unfortunately, lol! I am 9 months out and the
plateaus just about drove me crazy! BUT, in my 9 months I have lost from
244 down to 147 :) even with those pesky plateaus! You will loose the
weight whether you worry about them or not, my advice would be not to if
you can help it *grinz* Good Luck Hun!

I am 5 weeks and 3 days post and I have been on a plateau for about a week
and a half. I hate it, it is playing games with my mind. I keep thinking
there is something wrong with me that I'm not losing. So far I've lost 28
lbs I hope this darned thing breaks soon.

Yep, you're normal and we're in the same boat! I'm 7.5 weeks post-op and
I've only lost around 8 pounds in the last 3 weeks. But I've lost inches!
I just finished trying on some old summer dresses of mine I haven't worn in
a few years and they fit! Keep doing the program/plan you were given by
your surgeon and it will happen. Don't get in the mind set that you are
doing something wrong (unless you are!). Just be positive that you've done
something good for you. (p.s. I think it's good that our body takes a few
to catch up. Maybe that way our skin won't sag as much when we get closer
to goal.) :o)

I'm 7 weeks post op (open RNY-distal). I've lost 33lbs but nothing in the
last 1.5 weeks. Very fustrating. I finally put the scale away. It seems
when I do lose weight it comes off on one day of the week. Like another
poster stated I'll be the same weight everyday all week and then BAM I wake
up 4lbs lighter. Seems like this is pretty typical for some. Hang in there.
For me I just keep telling myself it'll happen when it happens as long as I
do what I should "diet" wise. 263 pre-op, 230 now, 85 to goal.
