Question:
Is the VBG successful for patients over 400 pounds.

I read on my doctor's web site that the VGB is not as effective as the RNY
or DS; especially for the super MO. His site is www.surgicallyslim.com

I was 370.... I lost over 170... but over the course of a few years after
losing it.. I gained it back plus 40!! I know there is a greater risk at
gaining the weight back with a VBG... especially with someone who likes
carbohydrates. For me I had a hard time eating real food and over time
switched to a junk food eater..... I also disrupted the staple line.....
I would not recommend the VBG to anyone.... I had a revision to a RNY.

This question begs another question. If VBG doesn't work and people have
revisions to RNY are they then successful or after a few years does this
fail too. What I am saying is if one surgery is not for you why would any
surgery help in the long run.

I don't claim to have any expertise in this area but...from what I have
heard from VBG patients this is a great surgery for people who are not
sugar/carbohaulics. If your problem is mostly volume, then VBG can work
very well for you with less dietary restrictions.

If, like myself, you have trouble with carbs and sugars and fats, then RNY
may be the better surgery for you. Since we all have different habits one
surgery just might work for one person and may very well fail for another
person.

Best wishes to all of you, whatever path you may choose.
