My doctor wanted me to wait until I was 4 weeks post op to try foods like
that. I am just over 4 weeks now and admit I cheated by starting solids a
little early. My doctor said he waits because of the swelling at the stoma.
He doesn't want food to become lodged because the stoma is swollen from
surgery and is smaller than the old opening from the stomach to the
intestine. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I know i sure ate tuna and crackers my 3rd week post op and cherished every
moment after drinking liquids for all that time. I pureed the tuna in a
blender and ate it with crackers. Never did i have a problem, did get burnt
out on it though. Please ask your doctor as they are all different.

Hi Mary, well here's my two cents worth: I had a VBG in 96 and didn't heed
the doctors instructions to only have pureed food the first two months,
hence I popped all my staple lines and quit losing after 6 months (plus I
had other bad habits I didn't keep under control). So after my open RNY
3.5 weeks ago I am following his instructions to the T and it doesn't say
anything about crackers on my plan, only pureed food or flaked salmon/tuna.
I wish my instructions included crackers, I'm jealous!!!! Best wishes~

Hi, of course each surgeon has a different post-op progressive diet &
please check with him/her first. I was on crackers/tuna/chicken 2 days
post-op in the hospital. Then on return home had cream cheese, un-salted
pretzels, sliced 2% lo fat cheese melted into Rosarita No Fat Refried beans
w/baked Tostitos. Am attaching my surgeons website for you to look around
in. Once there go the the bottom of the first page to the menu....then
click on the DIET sections. Good Luck! site is www.sabariatric.com. Thom
